Chapter 883
On the evening after the holidays, Charlene Ross and Stewart Ferguson attended a formal dinner they had been invited to.
In the car, Stewart remarked, “Thorne Henderson is probably going to show up tonight.”
“I know,” Charlene replied simply.
“This is the first time you two will be at the same event since Dr. Lucas’s gala. I imagine tonight’s dinner will be quite the spectacle.”
“Mm.”
At most, people were just curious about the drama between her and Thorne. She would get a few extra stares, but she couldn’t care less.
Arriving at the banquet hall, they had just exchanged pleasantries with the host when Dr. Lucas made his entrance.
Neither Charlene nor Stewart had expected the renowned scientist to attend.
Since the incident at the gala, they hadn’t found a proper opportunity to apologize to him. Seeing him now, they wrapped up their conversation and walked over.
“Dr. Lucas.”
He saw them and nodded. “You two are here as well?”
“Yes,” Charlene said, taking the lead. “I want to apologize again for what happened that night. I was hoping to take you out to dinner to make amends properly, but your assistant mentioned you were out of town on business, so we couldn’t pin down a time…”
“Don’t worry about it,” Dr. Lucas waved it off. “It’s all in the past.”
He frowned slightly before adding, “Besides, someone else has already formally apologized on your behalf, so you don’t need to stress over it.”
As he spoke, he shot a displeased glance toward the entrance of the banquet hall.
Hearing that someone had already
made amends, Charlene and Stewart instantly guessed it was Thorne. Following the older man’s gaze they looked toward the doors. Sure enough, there stood Thorne Henderson.
He had arrived alongside Granger Harden and Moran Albright.
The trio’s appearance immediately drew the attention of the surrounding crowd.
“Mr. Henderson used to always bring that Ms. Hawkins to these events. Tonight, it’s just the guys. Is he keeping his distance to avoid gossip?”
“With the Hawkins family’s company and Neural Nexus Tech in crisis, Thorne still hasn’t lifted a finger to help. Maybe they actually broke up.”
“Or maybe the Hawkins family just didn’t get an invite. After all, if it wasn’t for Mr. Henderson, they wouldn’t even qualify for the guest list. But look Thome is here with Granger, and Charlene is here with Stewart. Does this mean the
Henderson-Ross marriage is
definitely over?”
“Absolutely. Did you see what a disaster their last public appearance was?”
Across the room, Thorne, Granger, and Moran also spotted Charlene standing with Dr. Lucas and Stewart.
After greeting the host, the three
men began making their way toward Dr. Lucas, Sensing they were coming over, Stewart gracefully bowed out, Dr. Lucas, we let you catch up with them. We can chat more later.”
Dr. Lucas glanced at Charlene, sighed, and nodded. “Alright, later.”
Charlene and Stewart turned and walked away.
Thorne’s expression remained perfectly blank as he watched them leave to avoid him. Moran rubbed his nose awkwardly, while Granger couldn’t help but track Charlene’s retreating figure.
Seeing Charlene flee the moment Thorne approached only solidified the crowd’s belief: the bad blood between husband and wife was very real.
“They really are treating each other like complete strangers now.” “You can say that again.”
