Chapter 884
Amid the hushed whispers of the crowd, Thorne stopped in front of Dr. Lucas. “Dr. Lucas.”
Granger and Moran echoed the greeting.
Dr. Lucas acknowledged them with a grunt. He cast a sideways glance at Thorne, then looked pointedly toward where Charlene had gone. “Mistaking a piece of gravel for a diamond,” he scoffed. “Do you really not feel a shred of regret?”
Thorne didn’t follow his gaze. Instead, he seamlessly changed the subject. “I thought you’d be more interested in the project I mentioned to you last time.”
Dr. Lucas fell silent.
He was interested.
Since Thorne was determined to dodge the topic of Charlene, the older man couldn’t
be bothered to pry.
Ultimately, the messy love lives of the younger generation were none of his business.
He just found it aggravating and incredibly tragic that a woman as brilliant as Charlene was overlooked by Thorne.
Dropping the issue, he pivoted to discussing the project details with Thorne.
Granger and Moran, unable to contribute to the highly technical conversation, politely excused themselves and walked off.
Moran looked over at Charlene. Thinking about how Thorne had completely dismissed her earlier, he paused and couldn’t help but murmur, “Charlene really is exceptional in every way. If she truly wasn’t the one who orchestrated that drugging incident back then… she’s actually a catch. She and Thorne are a great match…”
She was leaps and bounds better than Vesta.
He had zero respect for the Spencer family’s character.
As for Vesta—now that he knew her full background, he strongly suspected that her initial meeting with Thorne had been entirely orchestrated.
But Thorne was utterly devoted to Vesta. Even knowing the deep-seated grudge between Vesta and Charlene, he had never mentioned it to Granger or Moran. For years, Thorne had turned a deaf ear to the Henderson family elders’ warnings.
Thorne’s feelings for Vesta were so deeply
oted that, despite Moran’s current disdain for the woman, beế hadn’t spoken a single bad word about her to Thorne since the gala.
Still, holding his tongue didn’t mean he wasn’t worried.
Hearing this, Granger slowed his steps but stayed quiet.
He knew perfectly well that Thorne and Charlene were a match made in heaven.
What he didn’t know was whether Thorne had ever truly realized just how brilliant Charlene was.
He had often wondered: if Thorne hadn’t recognized her talent before, would seeing her true capabilities now spark a different kind of feeling in him?
To find out, he had secretly kept an eye on things lately, only to realize that Thorne’s attitude toward Charlene remained completely unchanged before and after the gata.
Just now, when Dr. Lucas brought her up, Thorne had expertly sidestepped the topic…
Granger had to admit that confirming Thorne had zero romantic interest in Charlene brought a private surge of relief and happiness to his own heart.
Seeing him zone out, Moran clapped a hand on his shoulder. “Granger? What are you thinking about?”
Granger snapped out of it. “Nothing.”
“Do you think we should try to talk some sense into Thorne about Vesta?”
“Let’s find the right time to bring it up soon,” Granger agreed.
Though he knew Thorne was fiercely independent-once the man made up his mind, no one could sway him.
Knowing that was exactly why he and Moran hadn’t bothered intervening since the gala.
But this was Thorne’s future on the
line. AndVesta… her motives from the very beginning were highly suspect. With their best friend’s happiness at stake, they needed him to tread carefully.
