Chapter 885
Dalton Ramirez and Kelvin Scott had just arrived.
They perfectly caught the icy exchange-or lack thereof-between Thorne and Charlene.
Kelvin couldn’t help but mutter, “Charlene is absolutely stunning and brilliant, yet Thorne is still acting like a stubborn brick wall. I always knew he treated that Ms. Hawkins well, but I didn’t realize he was this fiercely loyal. Who would have guessed?”
Dalton remained silent.
He didn’t care that Thorne felt no romantic spark for the exceptional Charlene. What baffled Dalton was that Thorne remained so devoted to Vesta, even after her and her family’s glaring lack of morals had been exposed.
To Dalton, basic integrity was a non-negotiable baseline.
Perhaps he had just never been truly in love, but he simply couldn’t fathom Thorne’s blind obsession with Vesta.
Kelvin spoke up again. “They aren’t officially divorced yet, right? Based on what York said, they’ve been dragging out this divorce for over a year. When is it actually going to be finalized? If they keep stalling, how long is York supposed to wait?”
Hearing this, Dalton paused. “The last time we saw them, I didn’t get the vibe that she was into York at all. Even if she finalizes the divorce, York… might not stand a chance.”
By ‘last time,’ he meant the intimate gathering at the Watson estate with Kenton Wagner’s group right after the gala.
Back then, York had been very obvious about his feelings, but Charlene had avoided him like the plague.
York himself had admitted that Charlene wasn’t interested, but hearing Dalton confirm it made Kelvin bristle with disbelief. “Are you serious? She really feels nothing for him? But considering how completely obsessed York is with her, he’s not going to just throw in the towel. What happens then?”
Dalton looked toward Charlene in the distance. “That’s… York’s problem. Whether
he holds on or lets go is entirely up to him. There’s no point in us stressing over it.”
“I guess…” Kelvin followed his gaze, looking from Charlene over to Thorne. “Those two are exactly like before. They act like total strangers with zero connection still find it mind-blowing that they’re actually husband and wife.”
“Yeah,” Dalton agreed.
That was precisely why he had been so shocked whenever he’d caught brief
glimpses of intimacy between Thorne and Charlene in private.
Staring at Charlene, Kelvin leaned in and whispered in Dalton’s ear. “I heard Thorne has been trying to
divorce her for ages to be with Vesta but Charlene refused to sign the papers. Do you think she’s stil desperately in love with Thorne? Maybe that’s why she won’t give York the time of day.”
Dalton had naturally considered that theory. “It’s possible.”
But again, that was Charlene’s business.
Kelvin let out a heavy sigh. “If that’s true, then… I actually feel sorry for her.”
Sometimes, matters of the heart couldn’t just be switched off on command.
If Charlene loved Thorne that deeply, only for him to openly cherish her worst enemy and she
till couldn’t
let him go it had to be sheeptorture for her.
Though Kelvin didn’t spell it out, Dalton easily read between the lines.
Thinking back to Thorne’s blatant favoritism toward Vesta and his cold indifference toward Charlene, Dalton felt a twinge of sympathy.
“I just hope she moves on from Thorne soon and gives York a chance,” Kelvin said. “Wouldn’t that be a win for everybody?”
“…Yeah,” Dalton murmured.
