Chapter 890
[Thank you for taking care of Minnie these next few days.]
Charlene read the message but didn’t reply.
Meanwhile, Vesta Hawkins only found out that Thorne had gone to Hillcrest on a business trip after seeing the news online.
The lawsuit between her family’s tech company and Axiom Flux Technologies was about to begin. If Axiom Flux won, they might have to sacrifice almost all of Neural Nexus Tech just to cover the damages.
Losing Neural Nexus Tech didn’t matter, as long as…
After reading the news, Vesta immediately booked a flight to Hillcrest and then gave Moran Albright a call.
Seeing her name on the screen, Moran picked up anyway. “Calling this late, did something happen?”
“I’m heading to Hillcrest to find Thorne. Do you know which hotel he’s staying at and his room number? I want to give him a surprise.”
Moran didn’t suspect a thing. “I see. I’ll make a call and find out for you.”
“Thank you, Moran.” Vesta paused for a second, then added cautiously, “By the way, try to be discreet when you ask. Don’t let Thorne find out. Also, could you please put in a good word for me at the hotel? Otherwise, I’m worried they won’t let me up.”
“Don’t worry, I know how these things work.”
After hanging up, Vesta immediately grabbed her luggage and headed out the door.
She hadn’t even reached the airport before Moran texted her the details of Thorne’s hotel.
It took Vesta six or seven hours of travel before she finally arrived at the hotel where Thorne was staying. By then, the sun was already rising over Hillcrest.
She walked up to the front desk. “Hi, I’m a friend of Mr. Henderson’s. Someone should have called ahead for me. Could you take me up to his room?”
The receptionist hesitated. “I could, but… Mr. Henderson and his assistant checked out and left an hour ago.”
Vesta froze. “Checked out?”
“Yes. It seems they were rushing to catch a flight. He was scheduled to check out today anyway.”
Vesta stood rooted to the spot.
There happened to be two business conferences held in the area over the last couple of days. Even though it was early there were still plenty of people checking out to catch their flights. NovelPeak.org
Because others were in a hurry, the receptionist didn’t have time to entertain her. “Um, Ms. Hawkins, I’m a bit busy right now. Would you ming waiting in the lounge area over there?” NovelPeak.org
Vesta snapped back to reality and nodded. She dragged her suitcase out of the way. She had barely taken two steps when her eyes locked with a man standing to the side, NovelPeak.org
She paused. The man was exceptionally handsome, and the aura he exuded made
it obvious he was no ordinary person.
She nodded politely and was about to look away when the man took a step forward. “Ms. Hawkins? Vesta Hawkins?”
Vesta hadn’t expected to be recognized. She was wearing a mask and had only exchanged a few words with the receptionist, merely mentioning Thorne’s name. She was taken aback, but her expression remained calm and collected. “Yes. And you are?”
The man didn’t answer. He simply looked her up and down in silence.
Just then, his assistant walked over. “Mr. Croft, the paperwork is done. Let’s go.”
The man nodded, though his gaze lingered on her for a moment longer. “We’ll be seeing each other again soon. Goodbye.”
Without giving her a chance to reply, he turned and left with his assistant.
Vesta frowned, a knot forming in her stomach.
The way that man looked at her wasn’t just condescending… he had looked right
through her, treating her like she was completely insignificant.
It was as if her existence wasn’t even worth a second glance.
He clearly knew who she was and had only stared out of sheer boredom because
they happened to cross paths.
But she didn’t know him at all.
She turned to the receptionist and asked, “Excuse me, do you know who that gentleman was?”
