Just as Evan felt like he could barely breathe, Yara dropped another bombshell on him.

Evan looked up sharply. “What did you say?”

They still hadn’t been sent back to Harbor City?

The deal had been clear. Once Evan signed the divorce papers, Aaron was supposed to release the Wright family immediately.

Stella had already been officially registered as deceased in Harbor City, yet his family still hadn’t returned?

Yara’s expression was tense. “Aaron didn’t keep his word. This could get complicated.”

He hadn’t released them.

Which meant Aaron had changed his mind.

And that was definitely not good news.

Evan’s chest tightened even more.

“What does he want?”

“We haven’t heard anything yet. I don’t know.”

She paused.

“But when it comes to Aaron, no news is usually bad news.”

People liked to say that no news could still mean good news.

But with Aaron, Yara knew better.

Evan felt numb.

“That bastard Aaron.”

He ground the words through clenched teeth.

Right now, he wanted nothing more than to tear Aaron apart.

Aaron had forced him to make a choice within a single day.

And after Evan finally gave in, Aaron hadn’t even kept his end of the deal.

When Amos heard that the Wright family was still in Aaron’s hands, he froze.

Evan’s expression was grim. “This is getting complicated.”

“If he had, that would actually make things easier.”

Amos fell silent.

True.

If Aaron had made another demand, at least they would know what they were dealing with.

But right now, there was nothing.

No message.

No demands.

And that made the situation even more dangerous.

“What are you going to do?”

Trying to take people out of Eirden by force was practically impossible.

That was Aaron’s territory.

Amos sucked in a breath.

“I think Aaron might actually want them dead.”

Yes.

He might genuinely want to kill them.

Aaron had probably never been satisfied with the way Stella had dealt with the Wright family back in Harbor City . Aaron’s way of doing things had always been clean and ruthless.

But Stella had left too many loose ends behind.

There was no way Aaron had been happy about that.

He had probably wanted to deal with the Wright family a long time ago.

When Stella was still around, perhaps he had held back because he didn’t want to go too far.

But now Stella was gone.

And with nowhere else to direct all that anger, the Wright family had become easy targets.

Evan’s heart jumped into his throat.

Amos frowned.

“This is bad. We don’t even know what he’s planning.”

If Aaron were still negotiating with Evan, things would be different.

But ever since Stella’s records had been officially closed out, Aaron hadn’t sent a single word.

It was becoming increasingly obvious that he had never intended to let Evan off that easily.

What could he do?

Even after hearing Amos say all this, he had no answer.

After everything that had happened with Litt and Silas, their side had already taken heavy losses.

As much as Evan hated admitting weakness, there was no denying reality.

Trying to rescue the Wright family from Eirden, right out of Aaron’s territory, was beyond what they could manage right now.

“I’ll contact Aaron’s people,” Evan said through clenched teeth. “I want to know exactly what the hell he wants . ”
