After all, Evan had once–sounded just–as certain when he promised he would marry her.

And how had that turned out?

In the end, his promises had meant nothing.

A dull ache spread through Felix’s chest.

Stella looked at him.

“ Whatever happens, don’t touch Remi.”

She had overheard his conversation with Jack.

Felix could be just as unhinged as the others when pushed far enough.

Felix frowned.

“Aren’t you afraid Evan and Aaron will find out you’re still alive?”

Stella fell silent.

Evan .

Aaron.

Those two were truly at war now.

The entire Wright family had fallen at Aaron’s hands.

Aaron really was ruthless.

But then again, wasn’t that exactly how he had always operated?

Stella lowered her gaze .

“Just don’t hurt Remi.”

Felix rubbed his temple.

She wasn’t going to budge.

“Fine. Then we’ll get ready to leave . ”

Whether Remi stayed or not , they couldn’t remain in the town near Sima Mountain any longer.

This time , Stella didn’t object .

“Okay.”

Her tare agreement eased st

“ Stella , we still have a long future ahead of us.”

A very long one.

Stella said nothing.

A long future ?

All she wanted was a future that belonged to her alone.

Felix’s phone rang.

He stepped outside to answer it.

Whatever he heard on the other end clearly wasn’t good, because when he returned, his expression was grim.

Not long afterward, Remi came in.

“ Evan went to Mieda to find your brother. He’s already there, and he brought quite a few men with him . ”

Stella showed no reaction.

Remi continued,

“ There’s a good chance he won’t make it back this time.”

Aaron hated the entire Wright family now.

Yara was the only one he had spared.

Anyone else who walked straight into his path would most likely end up dead too.

Stella’s lips curled coldly.

“He actually has the nerve to go risk his life for them.”

The Wright family really was rotten to the core .

And yet …

They still mattered to Evan.

Of course they did.

No matter how awful they were , they were still his family.

Remi sighed.

“ Your brother is furious right now too. Evan going after him at a time like this is just…”

She didn’t finish.

There was no need .

Nothing good could possibly come from Evan confronting Aaron now.

Stella said flatly ,

“ He’s always acted without thinking about the consequences, hasn’t he? ”

Just like he had with her.

Every time he chose against her, he never once stopped to think about what those choices might cost him.

He was the same as Felix.

Both of them always seemed to believe that certain consequences simply wouldn’t happen.

Or that even if they did, they could somehow twist things around until they got the outcome they wanted.

“ What a mess,” Remi muttered.

“ Whether it’s you and Felix or you and Evan, all these relationships are a complete disaster.”

Stella had never wanted to be tangled up in any of it.

And yet everything had only grown more and more out of control.

“ No matter how messy it gets , it has nothing to do with me.

“That’s true,” Remi said. “But once everything settles down, they’ll probably start thinking about you again.”

Stella’s chest tightened.

Thinking about her?

She didn’t care who won or lost between Evan and Aaron .

But the thought that once the fighting stopped, they might turn their attention back to her…

That was terrifying .

Stella narrowed her eyes at Remi.

“What are you saying ? ”
