Once Remi set whatever plan she had-in motion, there was a very real chance the truth that Stella and Felix were still alive would be exposed.
And Stella couldn’t allow that.
Right now, she and Felix were in the same boat.
Whether Remi had come for Stella or for Felix, it didn’t matter.,
Either way, she was a threat.
Felix tightened his arms around her slightly.
“Then why did you suddenly change your mind?”
Stella stared ahead.
“I just don’t think I can handle any more chaos in my life.”
She paused.
“Life is too short. I can’t spend all of it fighting one battle after another. Especially…”
Especially what?
Her voice trailed off.
A bitter smile touched her lips.
“Especially not because of people who don’t matter.”
Felix’s chest tightened.
People who didn’t matter.
Who exactly did she mean?
Evan?
Or him?
Evan no longer mattered to her. That much was obvious.
But now,
Felix had a feeling he had become just as insignificant in Stella’s eyes.
“Remi definitely came here with some kind of agenda,” Stella said. “She’s not as simple as she looks.”
And that realization unsettled her.

She couldn’t let everything fall apart because of Retni.
Felix nodded.
“I understand. I’ll have Jack handle it.”
Stella closed her eyes.
This was the first time she had genuinely wanted someone dead.
She didn’t want to feel this way.
But Remi’s sudden appearance here was clearly suspicious.
Stella was tired.
The peace that had once surrounded the little town near Sima Mountain now felt strangely tense because of Remi’s arrival.
And at the same time, Mieda was descending into chaos.
After Yara arrived in Mieda, Aaron had her confined immediately.
He hadn’t mistreated her.
She had people looking after her, plenty of food, and everything she needed.
She simply wasn’t allowed to leave.
And Aaron hadn’t come to see her once.
“I want to see him.”
When a housekeeper came in with another meal, Yara spoke through clenched teeth.
The woman’s expression remained serious.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Wright. Mr. Hogarth said he won’t see you right now.”
“What does he mean by keeping me locked up
The housekeeper said nothing.
Yara’s eyes reddened.
here?”
“Tell him if he refuses to come see me, I’ll kill myself.”
She was being driven out of her mind.

Everyone in the Wright family was gone.
And now the person she feared for most was Evan.
She knew he might come after Aaron for revenge.
The Wright family had already lost everything.
If Evan came here too, he would almost certainly die.
Yara was terrified.
She was terrified for him.
No matter what, she had to stop Evan from coming.
But Aaron wouldn’t let her leave.
And she couldn’t get through to Evan.
She couldn’t see Aaron.
She couldn’t reach Evan.
No one knew how much torment Yara was enduring.
The housekeeper’s expression hardened when she heard the threat.
“Ms. Wright, that’s hardly fair. Mr. Hogarth has treated you very well, and now you’re threatening him like this?”
“Enough. Tell him to come see me!”
Yara screamed the words, completely losing control.
Treated her well?
This was what they called treating her well?
Anyone who wanted this kind of kindness could have it.
Yara certainly didn’t.
She never had.
Why did Aaron insist on pushing her this far?
Pain tore through her chest.
At some point, Yara had gotten hold of a small fruit knife.

Now she pressed the blade against her neck.
When the housekeeper saw how far things had gone, she had no choice but to report it.
And this time, the threat worked.
