Chapter 1220
Why had he asked something like that?
Once Gray was gone, Aaron was left alone in the study.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to ease the ache behind his eyes.
“Heartless little thing.”
She had actually chosen a method like this to get away from him.
Their father had been in the hospital all this time because of her.
Had Stella really not heard about it?
Or had she simply been cruel enough to stay hidden anyway?
Were the things that happened before really so impossible for her to understand?
So impossible to accept?
She had actually gone this far just to escape them.
The more Aaron thought about it, the angrier he became.
And yet at the same time, the darkness that had consumed him ever since Stella’s supposed death was slowly beginning to lift.
No matter what else happened, at least she was alive.
That was enough.
Back in the town near Sima Mountain, Felix quickly received the news.
The moment he learned that Evan had sent out even more people to search, he had a pretty good idea what had happened.
Especially when Aaron also began sending people to look for them.
Spring had arrived, and wild berries had started growing on the mountain.
They were tart, but their bright colors made them look beautiful.
Stella and Remi picked a large basketful together and brought them back.
After setting.the basket down, Remi said,
“These are really good for you once you make them into jam.”
“They’re sour.”
“They won’t be once they’re made into jam.”

Stella said nothing.
She still rarely spoke these days.
At one point, she had tried to leave again.
Felix caught her.
Remi had tried to help her escape, but she had underestimated just how tightly Felix was watching Stella.
In the end, even with Remi’s help, Stella had still been caught.
After that, Stella seemed to stop fighting it.
Remi, however, continued making one thing clear.
If Stella ever wanted to run again, Remi would still help her.
Even knowing she was no match for Felix, Remi never changed her position.
As for Stella…
When Remi first arrived, there had been too many things about her that Stella couldn’t figure out.
At one point, Stella had even wanted her dead.
But in the end, she hadn’t gone through with it.
Maybe there was still some softness left inside her after all.
She could no longer tell right from wrong.
But she did know one thing.
Her freedom shouldn’t come at the cost of someone else’s life.
And because she had held on to that last trace of compassion, she finally had someone here she could actually
talk to.
Because she certainly didn’t want to talk to Felix.
Her phone suddenly buzzed.
Stella picked it up and glanced at the screen.
Jennifer.
The moment she saw the name, her hand trembled.
Jennifer.
Ever since Jennifer left Sima Mountain and told Stella that Leon had found her and brought her back, the two of them hadn’t spoken again.
Jennifer knew that contacting Stella could increase the risk of someone discovering she was still alive.

And yet now, she was suddenly calling.
A bad feeling immediately settled in Stella’s chest.
Remi noticed that she wasn’t answering.
“Why aren’t you picking up?”
Stella snapped out of her thoughts.
She looked at Remi, then back at the phone still vibrating in her hand.
After taking a deep breath, she answered.
She raised the phone to her ear but didn’t speak.
Finally, Jennifer’s voice came through.
“Stella, it’s me.”
Hearing Jennifer’s voice eased some of the tension in Stella’s chest.
Evan was far too capable when he wanted to find someone.
And judging by the timing….
No matter how badly injured he had been when he left Eirden, he should have recovered by now.
Harbor City…
Just thinking about that place made Stella uneasy.
“Why are you suddenly calling me?” she asked.
Jennifer hesitated.
“Lucas just called Leon. Evan probably knows you’re still alive.”
Stella went completely still.
“What?”
