Chapter 1282
Aaron might not know how to handle family bonds.
But love?
That was something he absolutely should never have.
And yet now…
“Dad,” Stella said, “I want to continue the training you arranged for me before.”
Michael’s brows lifted slightly.
“You actually don’t have to…”
“I’m a daughter of the Hogarth family.”
“Now that I’m back and I’ve decided to stay, I don’t want to be weak or someone who always needs protecting.”
Stella knew exactly how capable Russ was.
He was one of Michael’s most trusted men.
And Michael had assigned him to stay by her side.
Wasn’t that basically admitting he saw her as someone who constantly needed protection?
Michael studied her for a moment, then nodded.
“All right.”
If Stella wanted to continue the training, he had no objections.
His little princess could do whatever she wanted.
Stella smiled.
“Thanks, Dad.”
That night, Michael had the empty hospital room next door prepared for Stella.
She had barely lain down when Aaron called.
Not long after that, Yara called too.
She had probably heard that Michael had already sent people after Evan.
Stella ignored both calls.
Back at the Hogarth estate, Aaron didn’t appear in front of Jane until an hour later.

Clearly, he had spent that time making thorough arrangements regarding both Yara and Evan.
Jane looked at him coolly.
“I don’t want this happening again.”
Making her wait an entire hour?
People like them knew exactly how valuable time was.
She had no patience for having hers wasted.
“You’ll be covering whatever that hour cost me,” Jane added.
Aaron’s expression darkened.
Jane set down her glass of water.
“Why did you suddenly decide you wanted a marriage alliance with my family?”
There was a teasing edge to her voice.
She clearly already knew more than she was letting on.
After all, the Merlin family had proposed a marriage alliance before.
Aaron had rejected it then.
So his sudden change of heart had naturally surprised Jane.
Especially considering the kind of man Aaron was.
He hadn’t compromised even when it came to Ivy.
And yet this time….
Aaron’s expression remained cold.
“We both get what we need out of this. There’s no reason to ask anything beyond that.”
Jane laughed.
“This is about that little caged bird of yours, isn’t it?”
On the way over, after learning about Yara, Jane had genuinely wondered whether Aaron had finally lost his
mind.
Even Ivy had never made him entertain an idea like this.
But now?
Somehow Yara had.
Was that favoritism?

Or had Aaron simply developed a weakness he never should have had?
Aaron’s expression darkened instantly.
The look he gave Jane turned icy.
Jane casually twirled a strand of her long hair around one finger.
“But here’s the problem.
“I don’t want her staying in Eirden.”
Aaron narrowed his eyes.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean I’m not going to be your cover.
She smiled faintly.
“If you wanted someone to help hide another woman for you, then you picked the wrong person.’
Aaron fell silent.
Jane continued,
“Yes, we both get something out of this arrangement.”
“But what I need isn’t something only you can give me.”
Aaron understood immediately.
Jane had come here to make one thing clear.
Either he chose Yara.
Or he sent Yara away.
A faint smile appeared on Aaron’s lips.
“As expected. Women from the Merlin family really aren’t cowards.”
Jane smiled.
“I like your sister.”
With that, she stood.
