Chapter 1022
Evan showed no anger after being slapped twice.
He caught Stella’s hand and examined it.
Her palm had turned red, revealing just how hard she had hit him.
“Does it hurt?” he asked.
Stella stared at him.
There had to be something seriously wrong with this man’s head.
“You hit me so hard that you hurt your own hand,” Evan said. “Do you feel any less angry now?”
Stella’s expression turned even colder..
Less angry?
Did he really believe everything that had happened between them could be reduced to her being angry?
And now that it was over, she was simply supposed to calm down?
She said nothing and continued glaring at him.
“Well, that look tells me you’re still furious,” Evan said. “Do you want to slap me a few more times?”
“Although your hand will hurt if you do.”
Stella had never seen this shameless side of him before.
Perhaps he had never needed to behave this way in the past.
Now he seemed determined to use every shameless trick he had.
When Stella refused to respond, Evan knew she did not want anything to do with him.
He suddenly lifted her over his shoulder.
“Let’s go. This place is unsettling. We’ll talk somewhere else.”
“You’re capable of being afraid?”
He had just forced himself on her in the middle of a cemetery.
She had assumed he had no respect for the dead whatsoever.
Now he was calling the place unsettling?
“I’m not afraid,” Evan replied. “I’m showing respect.”
“What could a man like you possibly respect?”
Evan drew in a sharp breath.
“That’s a harsh thing to say.”
Of course there were things he respected.
They had been married for years, yet she clearly still did not understand him well enough.
It did not matter.

They had the rest of their lives ahead of them.
He had plenty of time to let her get to know him properly.
Evan carried Stella directly onto the helicopter.
If the circumstances had not been so unusual, he never would have hidden her in a place like Sevi Valley.
“I still have some things I haven’t packed,” Stella said when she realized he intended to leave immediately.
“Remi and Seymour will bring them.”
Evan pulled her into his arms.
They had been separated for so long that he wanted to keep her against him every second.
He did not want to let go even for a moment.
“Let go of me!”
Stella raised her hand again, ready to slap him.
Why was he suddenly clinging to her like this?
Had he forgotten how viciously they had fought back in Harbor City?
He had even asked for a divorce himself.
Divorce.
The thought made Stella’s expression darken further.
That final stunt he had pulled before disappearing meant he had never truly intended to divorce her, had he?
“Why would I let go?” Evan said. “I’m not going to.”
He had returned to the same shameless behavior he had displayed in Seaborne.
After leaving Harbor City, he had finally understood many things.
Especially his feelings for Stella.
But he had also realized that shameless persistence was the only method he had left.
Nothing else worked on her anymore.
“You…”
Evan kissed her again.
This time, Stella was truly furious.
They were not even alone, yet he did not care who might see them.
When Remi and Seymour arrived with Stella’s belongings, they caught sight of the scene inside the helicopter and wisely stopped at a distance.
Stella struggled against him.
But Evans had already decided that shamelessness was his only chance of winning her back, and he refused to release her
He did not finally let go until she was struggling to breathe and the situation threatened to spiral further out of control

Stella glared at him and slapped him again.
“Go ahead,” Evan said. “Hit me as many times as you need.”
“The more you hit me, the more alive everything between us feels.”
Stella’s hand, already raised to strike him again, froze in midair.
