Neither Stella nor Evan had been far from death lately.

Felix said nothing.

“Where did he pick her up?” he asked coldly.
“Sevi Valley.”
Felix’s face darkened further.
“Did our people search that area?”
“Yes, but they found nothing.”
Felix’s men had searched Sevi Valley more than once.
They had gone there as recently as two weeks ago.
Aaron had sent people there as well.
Yet none of them had found Stella.
They had searched too many places during the past month and had no idea where she might actually be.
All they could do was cover as much territory as possible.
But the broader the search became, the less thoroughly each location was examined.
Felix narrowed his eyes.
“Everyone involved in the Sevi Valley search is to be punished.”
Jack fell silent.
A bone-deep chill radiated from Felix.
After hesitating, Jack could not help defending the
“Remi and Seymour were with her. Finding Miss Rowan under those circumstances would never have been easy.”
Everyone knew how capable the two of them were under Amos.
The failure to locate Stella was not entirely due to incompetence.
Felix turned a freezing gaze on Jack, clearly displeased that he was making excuses for them.
Jack immediately lowered his head.
“I’ll take care of it.”
He did not dare say anything more.
Perhaps Felix was right.
They had searched too many places lately and likely had not examined Sevi Valley carefully enough.
They deserved to be disciplined.
Jack left the room.
Once Felix was alone, he lit a cigar and took a long, harsh drag.
Smoke curled around him, making the danger surrounding tum teel even more oppressive
