Chapter 1159
Monique’s face went pale all over again.
She hated to admit it, but Jennifer was right.
What good was all this pride doing her?
If Leon had been unwaveringly devoted to her, then so what if she had to swallow her pride in front of his family?
If she and Jennifer could trade places, Monique would gladly throw her pride away.
But now…
Other than the Redson family’s support, what did she actually have?
And what use was their approval anyway?
The person she truly wanted was Leon.
No one else mattered.
In this relationship, Leon was the only one who did.
The realization made Monique’s chest ache so badly she could barely breathe.
In the end, she didn’t even remember how she left.
…
On the way back to the Redson estate, Monique felt cold all over.
Her phone suddenly buzzed.
Leon.
The sight of his name sent a dull ache through her chest.
She answered.
“Hello?”
“You went to see her again?”
Leon’s icy voice came through the phone.
He had never spoken to her like this back when they were still just friends.
Ever since her feelings had come out into the open, everything between them to become strained.
All the ease they used to have was gone.
For one brief moment, Monique actually regretted it.
Maybe spending the rest of her life by Leon’s side the way they had been before wouldn’t have been so bad.
Why had everything had to change?
“I…”
“What did you say to her this time?”
Leon cut her off before she could finish, his voice turning even colder.
Monique fell silent.
What had she said to Jennifer?
Honestly, she had barely gotten a few words out.
Jennifer had been the one tearing into her.
If anyone had left that conversation shaken, it was Monique.
She asked quietly, “ What did she tell you?”
“ Monique.”
Leon practically growled her name through clenched teeth.
Monique gave a soft laugh.
“You really are that worried about her.”
She was smiling as she said it, but tears were already gathering in her eyes.
All she had done was go see Jennifer.
Yet from Leon’s tone, anyone would think he wanted to tear Monique apart.
Was he really that afraid she might have done something to Jennifer?
Good thing she hadn’t.
“If I really had done something to her, would you kill me?”
He already sounded this dangerous just asking what she had said.
What if Monique had actually hurt Jennifer?
With how fiercely Leon protected her now, would he really kill Monique?
He would, wouldn’t he?
He really did care about Jennifer that much.
And that kind of devotion filled Monique with envy and bitterness.
Leon’s voice was cold.
“You’d better not have done anything to her. And don’t even think about it.”
Monique went silent.
Don’t even think about it.
So if she really did hurt Jennifer, Leon truly might kill her.
It felt as though an invisible hand had reached into her chest and closed around her heart.
There was no blood, yet the pain was suffocating.
“We’ve known each other for so many years, and somehow that still means less to you than a woman you’ve barely known. Leon, I honestly don’t understand how you even fell for her. What does someone like her have that’s worth…”
“Shut up!”
Leon cut her off sharply.
He really did protect Jennifer with everything he had now.
Monique wasn’t even allowed to criticize her.
And if this was how determined Leon was…
Could the wedding the Redson family was preparing really happen?
Leon had never been the kind of man anyone could force into something.
For the first time, Monique truly lost confidence in whatever future she thought they
