Ariel quickly asked, “Are you free on the 24th? Could you make some time? It’s my mom’s third-”
“Go to Colton to make an appointment. You should go to bed now. I have something to attend to tonight.” After saying that without so much as a hint of emotion, he left.
He didn’t even wait for her to finish.
However, Ariel no longer felt sad about that because she had been through similar situations too many times over the past three years.

For the past two years, Jayson had never shown up on Elena’s death anniversary. He was always busy with work or on a business trip. Even if she pleaded with him to take half an hour off his busy schedule and be there, he’d never agreed.
After having her requests ignored so many times, it was just natural that she would end up emotionally numb.
But this year, it was different.
Elena’s third death anniversary was an occasion Katie and Leonard highly regarded. It wasn’t a big problem if Jayson didn’t attend the yearly occasions, but if he was still absent during the grand ceremony they were about to hold, there was no hiding the fact that they were divorced.

The emotions in Ariel’s chest faded into a quiet calm.
Eventually, she was like a client to him, one who had to make an appointment to meet him. He would then decide whether to agree to her request, depending on his mood.
She was nothing in comparison to Nancy.
If Nancy had a request, Jayson would keep it in mind, no matter what it was. Busy or not, he would compromise for her sake without a word.
Ariel couldn’t be bothered where he was going, because the answer was evident.
Jayson wasn’t staying for the night, and she didn’t have to sleep in the same bed as him. As such, she decided to stay in the guest room so that she didn’t have to drive back to her house in the dark.
Jayson was still not back when morning came. Ariel didn’t stay for long. She drove back to Faye Tech.
Janice was feeling much better today, but her voice was still raspy.
