Jayson’s tone had relaxed quite a bit now.
Ariel paused for a second. When she looked up at him, their eyes met.
Something about Jayson seemed different, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
She decided not to respond and went ahead to bandage his hand. Only then did she notice a cut on his
neck.
He had fair skin, and tiny beads of blood were seeping from the cut. It was probably from the glass shards
when that bottle shattered.
She pulled out another alcohol swab. “Tilt your head a little.”
Jayson cooperated.
Ariel leaned closer and carefully cleaned the cut. He must have felt the pain as his Adam’s apple bobbed. She eased her touch a little.
But he frowned and suddenly grabbed her wrist, pulling her to sit beside him. “I’ve got this.”
“Can you see the cut? Did I hurt you?”
“No, your breathing’s just distracting.” Sitting with his legs apart, he opened the iodine and dabbed it on carelessly.
Ariel was rendered speechless for a moment. “I’m a living person, not a paramecium. Can’t I even breathe?

His lashes flicked up as he glanced at her. “I’m just sensitive.”
Right. Ariel suddenly remembered.
She clenched her fists and decided not to bring it up. Instead, she packed away all the supplies neatly.”
Whatever.”
Jayson stared at the first–aid kit for a moment. “Does the hospital get its supplies from you? Why do you have everything?”
The kit was big. The top layer handled external injuries, while the other two layers held different bottles and jars, all neatly organized in small glass containers. She really had everything categorized.
“I value my life. You can never have too many health supplies,” Ariel replied calmly, then returned the kit to the cabinet.
When she walked back, she noticed Jayson was wearing a pair of black Hermès leather slides, like he

had just come from home. He was dressed in all–black loungewear as well.
“Why are you dressed like this?” she asked.
Jayson brushed at the sterile dressing on his hand and replied, “Didn’t realize I needed to dress up to see you. Noted. I’ll be careful next time.”
Ariel caught the jab and pressed her lips together. “If there’s nothing else-”
“Mind if I borrow a charger? My phone died,” Jayson interrupted, placing his phone on the table.
Ariel walked over. “Hold on a second.”
She handed him her power bank. “You can take it with you.”
This was a polite way of chasing him out. Chapters first released on
Ignoring her, Jayson switched on the phone with swift motions and pulled up WhatsApp.
Ariel stood beside him and couldn’t help but notice his profile picture when he opened it. It was a matching photo with Nancy’s.
She immediately looked away, not wanting to stare or seem rude.
But Jayson looked up and caught the motion. He casually handed her the phone. “Want to see it? Go ahead.”
Ariel frowned, confused. She didn’t want to see his phone.
Jayson set the phone back on the table, screen still on. In the silence, his casual voice slipped into her ear. “Lucas is extremely self–centered. Ariel, you two were never suitable for each other.”
She actually found it a little ridiculous.
And this judgment was coming from Jayson of all people?
“Well, we were suitable for each other, and we still got divorced.” (1)
