Nancy could barely process anything after receiving such a crippling blow. It felt like she had plunged into a cold, dark pool- one she might drown in at any moment.
Everything that had unfolded was disastrous and overwhelming for both her and Sarah. She couldn’t make sense of it. Just when things seemed to be moving forward positively, one plan after and her crumbled.
Nancy knew she had to find a way to salvage the situation.

Just as she stepped into the lobby, she heard footsteps. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw Ariel entering, flanked by several members of the management team who reported dutifully to her.

Nancy’s expression hardened as she tightened her fists.
Ariel was heading upstairs and needed the elevator. By coincidence she and Nancy ran into each other there.

Nancy detected the sympathetic gazes and felt them like needles poking her skin, making her extremely annoyed. Still, she clenched her jaw and endured the feeling.
As the group stepped into the elevator, Nancy’s voice cut coldly through the air. “Ariel, let’s see how long you can keep this business running.”
Ariel smirked, glancing sideways. “Did Jayson not drive you here day?”

Ariel, stepping into the elevator, turned back with a mocking smile “I’ll be waiting. ”
Once the doors closed, Nancy breathed out slowly. Cornered though she was, she refused to lose her composure in front of others.

On her way back to the ground floor, Nancy paused to think, then decided to send a WhatsApp message to Renee.
“Renee, did Jayson go home last night?”
No immediate response came–Renee was likely busy with her revision.
Taking a deep breath, Nancy dialed Matt. He probably stayed up late; his voice sounded hoarse when he picked up.
“Matt, are you free today? Should we grab a meal with Jayson?”
