Hearing those three words from Jayson was something her past self had longed for.
Despite sensing his feelings, hearing it out of the blue now, Ariel was still momentarily frozen.
Jayson didn’t give her time to think or respond.
Holding her hand, he gently traced the back of it with his fingers and spoke slowly. “Maybe we should remove the uterus for the best outcome. And let’s not get divorced either.”
He took a deep breath. “Just focus on treatment. I’ll get the best doctors in the world to take care of you. I won’t let anything happen to you. Whether or not you can have kids later doesn’t matter. I don’t care about your uterus making any kind of use for me. I just want you to be healthy. Will you listen to me this time?” 1
He tried to make his voice gentler. He was almost pleading because he couldn’t bear even the slightest chance of failure or accident. He couldn’t bear to see Ariel suffer through a possible recurrence either.
Ariel was silent for a long moment.

Jayson gazed at her deeply. Of course he could sense her quiet melancholy.

He watched her for a while, waiting as exhaustion pulled her back into sleep. Then, he gently squeezed her hand and whispered, “A lot of illness comes from emotion. I admit I’ve hurt you. Just wait a little longer. I’ll… make it up to you with my life.”
The next day, Ariel had recovered enough to go see Katie.
She was actually grateful to Jayson yesterday. He had reassured Katie and Leonard, keeping them from seeing how frail she really was. She didn’t want to alarm Katie.
Jayson sent Ariel back to Katie’s home. He knew they had matters to discuss, so he stayed out of it.
He lingered at the entrance for a moment, then turned and drove straight back to Larkin Manor.
The investigation was still ongoing, but he already had a rough idea of what Cecilia and the others wanted to do.
He needed to update Betty on Ariel’s situation, so a trip back was necessary.
Just as he entered the courtyard, he noticed an unfamiliar car parked nearby.

As he strode inside, Cecilia was in the living room, chatting with Evelyn and the others.
Hearing the movement, Cecilia turned around and raised an eyebrow with a smile. “Welcome back.”
Shane, sitting across from Cecilia, stood to pour her a cup of tea. His gaze toward her was warm.
Jayson, having talked everything out with Ariel, still showed no outward reactions. His steps didn’t falter as he turned toward the backyard.
Noticing his demeanor, Evelyn pursed her lips and followed.
Cecilia’s expression remained calm. She had long been accustomed to being ignored by Jayson over the years.
Jayda, on the other hand, had started plotting something in mind. She smiled as she spoke to Cecilia. “Jayson’s always like that. He’s totally different from Shane. Shane’s gentler. Ms. Pryce, you and Shane are about the same age, right?”
Shane’s gaze flickered slightly.
Cecilia responded calmly, “We’ve known each other a long time. Back when I held exhibitions overseas, Mr. Larkin came to support a few times.”
Shane didn’t show much of a reaction. “Yeah, I do admire your work. I’ve even bought a few pieces before.”
