Dead at Heart Chapter 560

Chapter 560

In Renee’s eyes, Ariel was still throwing herself at Jayson and begging for a scrap of attention.
Ariel stood up. “So what? Did I give birth to you?”
She had no patience to argue with Renee, so she turned to leave.
Renee looked at Ariel in shock. Her face went pale from Ariel’s words. It felt like a sudden sting to the
chest.
She was taken aback by Ariel’s attitude. Unable to pin down exactly what she felt, she chalked it up to anger and marched toward Ariel. “You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? Is it because I was close to Nancy before? Ariel, if you want me to acknowledge you as my sister–in–law, just say so.”
She reached out to grab Ariel’s hand.
But Ariel wasn’t about to let her. She lifted her hand and swatted Renee’s away.
Renee’s glass tilted, and orange juice spilled onto Ariel’s stomach.
This time, Ariel’s eyes turned cold.
Meeting that gaze, Renee felt a chill run through her. She froze.
Jayson arrived just in time to see this scene. Frowning, he shot Renee a cold look before turning to Ariel. You should go get changed.”
Ariel frowned.
Where was she supposed to change? Also, she hadn’t brought any spare clothes.
Jayson seemed to read her mind. “Use the master bedroom on the second floor. You can wash it and throw it in the dryer if you want.”
Ariel looked at him, her tone cold and detached, as if she were just a guest. “Is that really okay?”
Wasn’t that his and Nancy’s private space? She had zero interest in snooping or crossing boundaries.
Jayson lowered his gaze at her. “Do you want me to take you up?”
Ariel frowned. Being soaked was uncomfortable, so she ignored him and headed upstairs. Since he didn’t mind, she had no reason to refuse. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ
As soon as Ariel left, Jayson turned his attention to Renee.
Renee felt a chill run down her spine as she met his gaze. Biting her lip, she murmured, “I didn’t do it on
purpose…”
As Jayson walked past her, he said indifferently, “Remember to apologize.”
Once upstairs, Ariel saw that the layout of the second floor hadn’t changed much. But even after the divorce, she wouldn’t snoop around indiscriminately.
Jayson mentioned she could use the master bedroom. It was still in the same place.
She walked straight to it. The moment she pushed the door open, she froze, and a flash of surprise crossed her eyes.
She looked around the room.
The bedding, rug, couch, curtain, and ornaments were exactly as she had arranged them. Even the vanity was in its old spot. The only difference was that her bottles and jars on the vanity had all been removed, making it look bare.
None of Nancy’s things were in sight.
Ariel furrowed her brow, genuinely confused.
The master bedroom hadn’t changed at all, as if it belonged to a completely different world from the rest
of the house.
She almost wondered if she was imagining it. After all, the place looked as if she had never left.
Just as she was about to step back, footsteps echoed behind her.
When she turned around, Jayson had already come upstairs. He glanced at her, then stepped aside into the bedroom. “If you’re going to change, do you mind wearing one of my shirts first?”
Ariel looked around the room again.
She really couldn’t wrap her head around Jayson. He had destroyed everything but left the master
bedroom untouched?
“Sure. Thanks,” she said. Her white silk shirt was soaked through and unusable. She wasn’t about to
suffer for the sake of keeping distance.
Jayson pulled a white shirt from the wardrobe, which was similar in material to hers. She had a waist
chain on her outfit, which would work well with it.
Ariel took it and headed into the bathroom. Inside, she hand–washed the stained shirt before tossing it into the dryer. She should be able to change back after dinner.
When she came out, Jayson was still there, sitting and scrolling on his phone.
As for why the master bedroom hadn’t been redone…
She glanced at all the decorations she had put in the room and frowned. “Why didn’t you redo this room?”
Jayson looked up at her.
Before he could answer, a knock came at the door. Rachel stood there, looking uneasy. “Mr. Larkin,
Nancy’s here. She wants to see you.‘
