Ariel thought about it. “You’re coming? No need to go through all that trouble. We could just meet in Nacsall. This place isn’t safe. Coming alone without protection isn’t a good idea.”

“No worries, I can handle it. I’ll coordinate protection on that side.” Jayson knew what Ariel was concerned about, but it was just a minor matter.
He actually missed Ariel, even though she had just left.
Perhaps because their relationship had only just taken a step forward, he still felt a hint of uncertainty.
Noticing his insistence, Ariel considered the timing and judged it wouldn’t be too problematic.
Besides, she could take time off from work here, which made her look forward even more to the upcoming trip to Nacsall. She felt energized all over.
“Alright,” she replied, then returned her focus to the laptop.
Jayson didn’t hang up. He just watched her focus silently. Even when they said nothing, his heart felt full.
He caught every small expression–her brow furrowing, then softening in thought. A quiet smile tugged at his lips.
After a while, he returned to the bedroom with his phone.
When Ariel got absorbed in something, she easily lost track of her surroundings. By the time she finished, over an hour had already passed.
She rubbed her neck and looked at the screen, which showed Jayson’s peaceful sleeping face.
He had placed his phone on the bedside table with the camera aimed at his face as he lay on his side.
She paused and stared at him.
Jayson had always been a good sleeper. He mostly slept on his back, lying straight and still. He rarely slept on his
side.
The only exception was the first year after they got married, when he liked to hold her from behind as they slept.
Other than that, he always slept on his back.
Today, perhaps he wanted to see her, or he wanted her to see him.
Ariel gazed at his face for a long time and felt a warmth rising in her chest.
Softly, she whispered, “Goodnight.”
Then, she ended the video to avoid disturbing his sleep.

In the following days, Ariel threw herself completely into work. She dove into discussions with the local team, revising blueprints and code again and again.
The technical issues were deep, with countless tricky problems to solve.
She barely had a moment to rest as she led the team through endless meetings.
After more than half a month of effort, initial progress began to show.
When she arrived to examine the local aircraft models, Ariel received a text from Jayson.
“I’m almost finished with things in Eldoria. I’ve booked my ticket and should arrive around 6:00 pm local time.”
Ariel checked the clock. Days had passed almost unnoticed. She had thought it would be longer before Jayson could come.
“Have you recovered? You’re okay now?” she asked.
“My health isn’t important. What matters is that I miss you.‘

Ariel glanced at the time. It was nearly 6:00 pm. She expected Jayson to arrive soon and headed outside.
The moment she went downstairs, a sudden, deafening explosion erupted in the distance.
Ariel flinched, and her phone tumbled to the ground. The building seemed to be shaking.
