Jayson’s expression was heavy as he scanned the area below. Ariel was still missing. With someone hunting him so relentlessly, he knew he needed to be even more cautious in his actions.
He looked at Wade. “Mr. Garner, how did you end up here?”
Wade didn’t take his eyes off the control panel. “Janice asked me to come in and find Ms. Walker. I thought you two were together.”
Jayson felt his heart sink again. Clearly, Ariel was still unaccounted for.
“I haven’t found her yet,” he muttered, his gaze dropping to the wedding ring on his finger.
Wade continued, “I’ve searched the west and south sides, but there’s no sign of Ms. Walker. Where did you come from, Mr. Larkin?”
This area wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small either. With the chaos now, people were scattered everywhere, so finding someone was no easy task.
Jayson frowned, thinking hard. “Then we’ve covered different directions.”
Wade checked the coordinates and added, “There were locals with Ms. Walker, colleagues who evacuated together. One person is hard to track, but there’s a whole team, and so far none of them have been reached.”
Jayson’s gaze sharpened. “If it were the whole team, someone would have contacted HQ by now. The fact that no one has suggests that this situation is far from simple.”
If Ariel were alone, the chance of an accident would be high. But with so many people unaccounted for, it raised red flags. Under normal circumstances, finding that many people shouldn’t be too difficult.

Jayson’s gaze darkened. “Is it possible that they’re no longer in this area?”
Wade paused to think.
Half an hour ago, he had received word that military personnel had been dispatched to search, but there were still no results.
In that case, Jayson’s suspicions seemed increasingly likely.
Jayson pulled out his phone, trying again to reach Ariel.
“Please head somewhere safe first.” He had a new plan in mind. If Ariel weren’t here, he would turn to satellites and drones to track her.
Wade didn’t hesitate. He immediately steered back to base.

Ariel was placed in one of the bedrooms on the first floor. Until now, she still hadn’t seen any of her colleagues.
She didn’t know where Samson was. He might be upstairs or somewhere else entirely. She didn’t even know the
time.
The people outside had brief breaks for rest. Ariel found a gap and slipped out from the bedroom balcony.
The car she had arrived in was still parked in the courtyard, not far off. She moved silently toward it.
Her phone had fallen into the car and hadn’t been found. It had shut down after the fall, but she wanted to try it again now.
The landline inside couldn’t make outgoing calls anyway.
Reaching the car, she found the door unlocked and easily opened it. She fumbled under the backseat for a while before finally locating the phone.
The screen was already cracked, but she didn’t care and tried to power it on.
After a few failed attempts, the screen finally flickered to life. Ariel was overjoyed.
The phone was clearly unstable. Half the screen was scrambled.
Still, she immediately turned the brightness down to the lowest setting.
She checked the signal bar. There was barely one, and it was flickering unsteadily. But to Ariel, it was still a glimmer of hope.
Just as she was about to activate her satellite tracker and check whether her previous location had been sent, a voice rang out from behind. “Why did you come out?”
A chill ran down her spine. Ariel dimmed the phone’s light even more, keeping the screen almost invisible.
