Her grandmother was speaking from the heart.
Claire felt a lump in her throat, and her eyes turned red.
She nodded, her voice choked as she managed a quiet, “Okay.”
“Let’s go. We’re heading back. The wind is too strong today; God isn’t open for business,” the old woman said, her shoulders slumping slightly, her face full of melancholy.
Claire asked her, “But weren’t we here to fulfill your vow?”
“No need. God didn’t grant my wish, so there’s nothing to fulfill.”
Claire had no choice but to help her grandmother back down the path. As they passed the area where people requested good luck charms, she saw a familiar figure.
Her steps faltered.
Her grandmother sensed her hesitation and asked, “What is it?”
“Nothing.” Claire glanced over again, then made an excuse about needing to use the restroom and asked her grandmother to wait for a moment.
After getting Old Mrs. Quigley settled, Claire detoured to the main hall of The Aurelian Abbey where the charms were requested.
After confirming the person’s identity, she immediately took a picture and sent a message to Noreen.
“Babe, I’m at The Aurelian Abbey with Grandma today and I spotted a turtle. Wanna see?”
Noreen was in the middle of work. When she saw the message, she slowly typed a question mark.
“A turtle that’s 188. Ever seen one?”
Noreen asked, “188 pounds? That’s one big turtle!”
Claire sent, “…”
“I meant 188 centimeters tall.”
This time, Noreen finally understood the hint. “You ran into Seth?”
“Yep! He’s here at The Aurelian Abbey today, which is strange. A guy like him believes in this stuff?” Claire was getting curious.
Noreen’s thoughts paused for a moment.
She wanted to say that Seth didn’t believe in it, or at least he never used to.

Claire was worried about keeping Old Mrs. Quigley waiting, so she didn’t linger and turned to leave.
Just as she left, Jude entered the hall.
He was about to call out to Seth but stopped when he saw him praying to God. He closed his mouth and waited quietly.
His eyes, however, remained fixed on Seth.
The hall was filled with swirling incense smoke, but it couldn’t hide the devotion on the man’s face.
He prayed silently, repeating a name in his heart.

Seth didn’t evade the question. “For Noreen.”
Jude was speechless.
“She’s not sick or in any trouble. What are you praying for?”
Jude couldn’t quite understand.
“I’m praying for her career.”
After all, for the current Noreen, besides Rosalind, her career was the most important thing to her.
Jude was speechless again.
No wonder Noreen’s business had
been booming lately! He’d heard
she’d just scored two back-to-back
