But not many people knew about the incident. There was only one person Noreen could think of. The name grew clearer and clearer in her mind.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Caldwell, but this has nothing to do with me. You’ve come to the wrong person.”

Jaxon was stunned. “Miss Gilmore, I came here in good faith…”

Noreen cut him off. “I’m telling you the truth. Don’t waste your time here.”

Seeing she wasn’t joking, a chill ran down Jaxon’s spine, and his expression changed. He didn’t linger, quickly turning and leading his men out of the dessert shop.

Just as Noreen was leaving, she got a call from Castle. Jaxon worked fast; he must have called Castle the moment he left her. Noreen could guess why Castle was calling.

She answered, and Castle got straight to the point. “Can you get in touch with Seth? I think he’s the one who took Sue.”

Noreen was just as direct. “He’s not answering my calls.”

“Keep trying,” Castle urged.

Noreen tried, but she still couldn’t reach Seth. She had no idea where he was or what he had done with Sue.

Claire, who had heard everything, commented, “For once, that jerk Seth is acting like a decent human being.”

She was fiercely loyal, always siding with her friends, right or wrong. That lunatic Sue had hurt her friend. Whatever was happening to her now, she deserved it. Just because you’re crazy doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want.

Noreen and Claire had just gotten back to Harborview City when a red car cut them off. Dariel immediately put himself between them and the vehicle.

A middle-aged woman stumbled out of the car and ran toward Noreen, shouting, “I want to see Noreen! Let me see her! I’m Sue’s mother.”

Since she was just a woman, Dariel couldn’t be too rough. He held her by the arm and looked back at Noreen for instructions.

“Your husband already spoke to me. I made it clear to him that Sue’s disappearance has nothing to do with me. It’s useless talking to me,” Noreen told Brianna firmly.

Brianna’s eyes were red and swollen,

as if she’d been crying for hours. Her

hoarse “We’ve looked

everywhere but we can’t find Sue

anywhere. Miss Gilmore, I’m begging you, please save her! She’s just a child!”

A twenty-five or twenty-six-year-old child? Claire was completely exasperated.

Brianna’s voice cracked with sobs. “This whole thing started because of you! Seth took her to get justice for you, so you must have a way to contact him! I’m begging you, for Harriet’s sake, please save my daughter!”

She pleaded with Noreen, tears and snot streaming down her face.

Noreen was getting annoyed. Why was everyone asking her to spare Sue? Did they think she was running a horse ranch? Did any of these people ever stop to think that it hadn’t been Seth in that room that night, but some other random man…

In that moment, Noreen was actually grateful it had been Seth. It had prevented a much worse outcome. Because of that, she couldn’t feel any sympathy for Sue.

“I’m afraid I can’t help you,” Noreen stated, making her position clear.

Hearing this, Brianna flew into a rage and accused her, “I bet you’re the one who told Seth to kidnap Sue! And here you are, pretending to be innocent! You’re a jinx! Years ago, because of you, sell broke tour of Seth

Sue’s ribs and had her locked in a

psychiatric hospital for five years! And I think Harriet’s death had something to do with you, too! That’s why you couldn’t wait to get

engaged to Castle!”

Noreen’s eyes twitched. Amidst the long, hateful tirade, one key piece of information

stood out. “What did you say?”
