Chapter 978
When Felix returned to his office after his meeting, he saw the auction invitations on his desk.
With almost no hesitation, he told Secretary Lynwood, “Cancel tonight’s dinner.”
The secretary was slightly surprised.
The dinner was quite important.
Fearing Felix had forgotten, he reminded him, “Mr. Quigley, it’s the dinner with Mr. Naylor from Eastvale Corporation. Cancel that too?”
Felix didn’t waver. “Yes. Cancel it.”
He wanted to personally deliver the invitation to Claire.
He wondered if seeing it would make her a bit happier.
That afternoon, Felix accompanied Madeline to her specialist appointment and took her straight home afterward.
He didn’t mention a word about the invitation.
If Secretary Lynwood hadn’t tipped her off, she truly would have been kept in the dark.
As Felix was leaving, Madeline purposefully asked, “Felix, are you free this Friday?”
Felix paused slightly. “I have something to do that day.”
“Oh, that’s fine! Go ahead and be busy. I was just asking,” Madeline said,
suppressing her bubbling excitement to act casual.
Felix assumed she was just casually asking and didn’t think much of it, bidding her goodbye.
However, he didn’t head home. He went straight to the hotel.
But Claire wasn’t there.
She had gone for a makeup test.
She was busy until very late, finishing past ten at night.
As soon as she returned to the hotel, she received a message from Wilbur.
He didn’t say a word, just sent a picture.
When she opened it, her eyes immediately grew hot. She instantly texted back: “Where is it?”
Wilbur replied: “It’s one of the lots in Friday’s Apex jewelry auction.”
Claire couldn’t sit still. “What do I need to get in?”
Wilbur: “An invitation.”
Just as she was about to call Noreen, Wilbur’s second message came through “I have one If you
need it,

Claire immediately replied: “I do!”
“Thank you!”
It was perfect that he had one; now she wouldn’t have to wake Noreen up in the middle of the night.
Wilbur arrived quickly. Along with the invitation, he brought a dessert.
His tone was perfectly flat. “Accidentally bought too much.”
“Thank you!”
She was starving.
She hadn’t eaten much in the afternoon for fear of ruining her freshly done makeup.
Working overtime on multiple looks left her ravenous.
She was originally planning to eat instant noodles in her room.
Now she didn’t have to settle for that.
Wilbur was very respectful. He didn’t even step inside the room, just saying, “Get some sleep after you eat.”
He turned to leave.
Claire thought for a moment and called out, “Wilbur, whenever you’re free, let me treat you to dinner.”
“Anytime,” Wilbur said.
As if afraid she’d overthink it, he added, “I’m on vacation, so I have plenty of time.”
Claire smiled, her eyes curving
brightly. Alright, let’s schedule a
time! You can think about what you wandto eat. The more expensive, the better!”
Wilbur smiled back. “Okay.”
Clutching the invitation and the
dessert, Claire was about to close et

“Miss Chase, you’re back? Here’s something for you, dropped off by a Mr. Felix
Quigley.”
Claire’s expression shifted in a split second.
The butler handed her an envelope.
Claire didn’t even open it. She thanked the butler, turned around, and tossed it straight into the trash.
She couldn’t even be bothered to look.
Probably just another trick to stall the divorce.
