Chapter 850
She just wanted to cut straight to the chase.
But Felix deliberately avoided the topic of the divorce, emphasizing instead, “The doctor said her health is fragile and her blood pressure is high. She can’t handle any emotional distress right now, so regarding the divorce…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Claire cut him off. “Let’s talk about the agreement first. Exactly which clause needs to be amended? Hurry up and tell me, Coley gets off work soon.”
Although they were going through an amicable divorce, Noreen had warned her to stay vigilant.
Any clause related to the agreement needed to be reviewed by Coley.
He had the experience, and she couldn’t risk Felix pulling a fast one on her.
After all, he had a track record.
Noreen was referring to the whole secret marriage contract fiasco.
As soon as Claire mentioned Coley, Felix’s expression darkened.
During these twenty-nine days, he hadn’t contacted Claire once, purely waiting for her to cool down.
Even now, he still assumed she was just throwing a tantrum, waiting for him to compromise.
But he had waited twenty-nine full days, and Claire hadn’t reached out a single time.
Not even a text.
It was as if she were dead set on divorcing him.
Felix took a sip of the coffee in front of him.
Black coffee was truly bitter-so bitter it made his throat scratchy.
Yet he drank nearly half the cup before finally asking, “Are you divorcing me because of Madeline? If that’s the case, I can try to see her less. There’s no need to cause a scene over her. She and I aren’t what you think we are.”
“Stop. Just stop,” Claire said, her face full of impatience.
“I’m not divorcing you because of Madeline, or anyone else for that matter. I simply don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore. That’s it.”
As Claire spoke, her eyes were unwavering, her stance absolute.
Felix’s heart lurched violently, an indescribable panic spreading through his chest.
But it only lasted a second.
He shoved the inexplicable emotion down, though his expression remained sour if it’s not because of Madeline, then you’re divorcing me for Wilbur? Have you fallen for him?”
Here we go again.
Why was this man so utterly delusional?
All the mental preparation she had done before coming here shattered in an instant.
Claire grabbed her iced coffee and
threw it directly into Felix’s face.
“Don’t you dare put this on me! If you
have any decency left, you’ll show up sign the papers, and jet
tomorrow
me go. Keep your dirty laundry to
yourself and stop trying to drag me down with you!”
Felix looked completely humiliated.
Normally, he would have exploded with rage.
But strangely, he didn’t lose his temper this time. He just grabbed some napkins and slowly wiped his face.
Claire finally understood what was
going on. He never had any intention of discussing amendments to the agreement.
He had just come to mess with her.
Perhaps he even wanted her to conveniently walk in and witness Madeline playing the caring girlfriend.
If that receptionist hadn’t been so blind, Claire might have actually caught them in the office!
Now that would have been truly disgusting!
Her last shred of patience was completely gone. Refusing to spend another second
with him, she stood up abruptly.
Before leaving, she pointedly reminded him, “Tomorrow. City hall.”
She took two steps, then suddenly stopped.
Felix paused his wiping.
Was she… hesitating?
A glimmer of hope flickered in his chest.
Then Claire added, “Be there, or you’re pathetic!
With that, she marched out of the coffee shop without a second glance.
Felix stared after her as she left, watching her walk out the door with absolute resolve, never once looking back.
