But…
The dinner did look incredibly appetizing, and he had even prepared her absolute favorite side dishes.
She had spent the entire day stressing over how to cook this chicken broth, and now
a perfectly seasoned, aromatic bowl was sitting right in front of her.
Honestly, it was nearly impossible to resist.
Seth gently nudged her toward the sink to wash her hands.
Noreen gave up the fight entirely, washed her hands, and sat down to eat.
Between bites, she gave him a stern warning. “You can’t keep coming over like this. It’s inappropriate.”
“Just eat your food.”
Stop talking.
Everything she was saying was exactly what he didn’t want to hear.
He waited until she finished her meal, then handed her a glass of perfectly warm water, strictly supervising her as she took her medication. “Even though you’re feeling better, you can’t just stop taking your meds. You need three more doses to completely knock the virus out.”
Noreen had always possessed a terrible habit of avoiding medicine.
She would only take pills when she was literally on the brink of collapsing. The absolute second she felt even a fraction better, she would toss the medication away.
This was a habit Seth was acutely aware of.
Years ago, they had traveled up north to negotiate a project and got caught in a brutal snowstorm, freezing for an entire night.
Noreen caught a severe cold that spiraled into a recurring fever she just couldn’t shake.
After carefully questioning her, Seth discovered she had stopped taking her medicine the moment her fever broke, causing the illness to violently relapse.
Ever since that day, Seth had committed that terrible habit of hers to memory.
Whenever she got sick, he made sure to hover over her and force her to finish her prescriptions.
Unfortunately, she was incredibly healthy and rarely fell ill, so she had never noticed how closely he paid attention to these little details.
Later on, when she developed stomach ulcers, she intentionally hid it from him, terrified of distracting him from his work.
Because of that, Noreen was genuinely surprised he remembered her bad habit.
It was the exact same medication from yesterday, but for some reason, the pills tasted exceptionally bitter today.
Probably because her sense of taste was returning.
Noticing her deeply furrowed brow, Seth turned back to the kitchen and brought out a small bowl of sweet soup.
The medicine left such an awful aftertaste that Noreen couldn’t bring herself to reject the sweet soup. She took the spoon and drank it in tiny sips.
The tartness of the ingredients blended perfectly with the rich sweetness. Before she knew it, she had finished the entire bowl.
The agonizing cramps in her stomach melted away beneath the soothing warmth of the sweet liquid.
For the first time in ages, she managed to get through the second day of her period without needing painkillers.
While she drank the soup, Seth quietly washed the dishes in the sink.
Finally, he walked out holding a massive, perfectly ripe Durian.
Right in front of her eyes, he began prying the fruit open, his face twisted in utter disgust.
Durian was an incredibly polarizing fruit.
Those who loved it, adored it.
Those who hated it, despised it.
Seth fell heavily into the latter category.
He absolutely loathed anything with a pungent, overpowering smell.
Durian, cilantro, celery… he hated them all.
Watching him endure this torture was a completely jarring experience for Noreen.
She honestly started to wonder if he was possessed.
Or maybe this wasn’t Seth at all, but some flawless clone who merely shared his face.
With modern technology being what it was, it wasn’t entirely impossible.
Otherwise, how could a man’s personality take such a drastic one-hundred-and- eighty-degree turn?
It took a significant amount of effort, but Seth finally managed to extract a large piece of the fruit.
The smell was so violently offensive to him that his entire face screamed in silent protest. Yet, he placed the piece on a plate, pushed it in front of Noreen, and commanded, “Eat
“Dr. Wynne said this stuff works wonders for cramps.”
So that was it.
When Noreen didn’t move, he picked up the piece of fruit and brought it directly to her lips, What are spacing out for? Eat it.

smile. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
