One of the officers explicitly told her, “Ms. Chase has initiated legal proceedings against Ms. Lynwood for false accusation. We are here to investigate the case. Please cooperate with us.”

Both mother and daughter reacted violently.

Especially Jean. “She’s the attacker! How does she have the nerve to hold my daughter accountable? Officers, you must have made a mistake!”

The officer sternly warned Jean, “From the moment the incident occurred until now, neither of you has been able to provide solid evidence proving that Claire injured Madeline. The burden of proof lies with the accuser. If you cannot provide evidence, then Claire has every right to sue you for false accusation.”

“Isn’t my injured hand proof enough?” Madeline held up her bandaged hand for the officers to see.

The officer maintained a cold expression. “That only proves your hand is injured. It does not prove Claire did it.”

“As I said, the burden of proof is on you. If you produce evidence that she hurt you, you can hold her accountable. If you can’t, then you must face the legal consequences of her false accusation lawsuit.”

When Madeline called Felix for help, he was already on his way back to the hospital.

Since leaving the hospital, Claire’s words had been echoing in his mind.

In that moment, he truly realized what a failure he had been as a husband.

So, on the drive back, he asked his driver, “I remember you’re married, right?”

The driver replied, “Yes, Boss. I’ve been married for three years.”

“Is your relationship with your wife good?”

“It’s great. We have a beautiful daughter together.”

Felix remembered that.

He had even told his secretary to prepare a generous cash gift at the time.

“Do you remember your wife’s preferences?” Felix asked.

The driver laughed. “Of course I do! If I couldn’t even remember that, what kind of man would I be?”

For some reason, the driver felt the air pressure in the car suddenly plummet.

A moment later, Felix asked in a cool tone, “Does having a child make the marriage stronger?”

“Absolutely. A child is an unbreakable bond between a husband and wife.”

Felix pondered that sentence for a long time.

So, having a child was the answer.

Just as he was thinking this, Madeline’s call came in.

He frowned, hesitating whether to answer.

For some reason, he really didn’t want to pick up her calls lately.

He didn’t even want to hear her voice.

He stared at his phone for a long time before finally answering right before it went to voicemail.

Listening to Madeline’s sobbing complaints, Felix’s brow furrowed. “I’ll be right there.”

The female officer scoffed, “I swear,

The male officer replied, “Tell me about it. Thank God this Claire woman was smart enough not to

fall into the trap of

her own innocence, and even knew

to counter-sue.”

The female officer lowered her voice. “I heard the girl inside is a homewrecker who forced her way into their marriage. I have no idea what that man sees in her. Maybe hejust

he just likes women with no brains?”

“You hit the nail on the head. Some men actually prefer brainless women.”

The female officer sneered. “What a twisted taste.”

Felix walked past them with a dark, livid expression and pushed open the door to Madeline’s room right in front of them.
