Noreen froze slightly.

She remembered Dr. Wynne.

Years ago, Seth had introduced her to the renowned gynecologist.

She also recalled how he had promised to accompany her to her appointment, only to completely ghost her the next day because of Bianca Lowell.

How had she felt back then?

Disappointed to the point of utter numbness.

Seth brought a second spoonful of the sweet soup to her lips, but this time, Noreen refused to eat it.

“What’s wrong? Does it taste bad?” Seth asked, genuine concern lacing his words.

“Yeah. It’s awful.”

It was absolutely terrible!

Seth took a taste himself. He thought it was perfectly fine, tasting exactly like what Dr. Wynne had described.

Assuming Noreen was just being picky because she felt sick, he asked patiently, “Is there anything else you’d rather have? I can make it for you.”

“I don’t want anything.” Noreen was entirely lethargic, her brows furrowed in discomfort from her aching muscles. “Just go home. I want to be alone.”

“I won’t bother you.”

More importantly, she was still running a fever and was completely alone. There was no way he was going to abandon her now.

“But I don’t want to look at you.”

Seth remained silent for a long moment before replying, “Then close your eyes, and you won’t have to.”

Every cell in Noreen’s body felt like it was at war. She simply didn’t have the energy to argue with him, so she rolled over, turning her back to him to sleep.

Perhaps the medication was kicking in.

Or perhaps Seth was deliberately keeping his presence to an absolute minimum. Before long, Noreen drifted off again.

She slept for quite a while this time. When she finally woke up, she realized she was tucked into her own bed.

Only a dim nightlight illuminated the room, and the house was wrapped in silence.

A faint, subtle noise echoed from outside her door-likely coming from the kitchen.

The agonizing cramps in her stomach had faded significantly, but her head still felt like a block of lead, her thoughts processing slower than usual.

It took her a long moment to realize that the person outside had to be Seth.

He still hasn’t left?

Noreen rolled over, her head buzzing with a sharp, explosive throb.

No matter how she positioned herself, nothing seemed to relieve the miserable aches of the flu.

As she wallowed in discomfort, the bedroom door clicked open.

Light from the hallway spilled across the floor.

Seth walked up to the edge of the bed and pressed the back of his hand against her forehead.

Her fever had broken slightly, but she was still running a temperature.

knew she was awake. He spoke in a low, gentle voice, “Get up and eat

something. made some chicken I broth.”

“I’ll bring it in here.”

Seth stepped out and returned less than two minutes later, carrying a steaming bowl of fresh chicken broth.

Thanks to the flu, Noreen’s sense of smell was heavily dulled.

Yet, as the rich, savory broth was placed right under her nose, the mouthwatering aroma managed to break through.

Her stomach, which had been empty all night, immediately began protesting.

She was undeniably hungry.

She could hold a grudge against anyone, but there was no point in punishing her own body.

Noreen didn’t put up a fight.

However, when Seth attempted to feed her, she pushed his hand away. “I can do it myself.”

“Take your time. Don’t burn yourself,” Seth murmured, his deep voice carrying a warm, coaxing tone as if he were tending to a child.

The chicken broth was incredibly savory.

The rich flavors practically melted on her tongue.

It tasted exactly like the old family-owned diner she used to love.

He must have specifically learned their recipe too.

Noreen didn’t ask; she simply sat in silence, taking small, slow bites.

Seth sat on the edge of the mattress, his gaze locked onto her, dark and intense.
