Chapter 1001
Felix caught the mocking glint in her eyes, and a sudden wave of unease washed over him.
He ignored her sarcasm and said, “You wanted that tiara, didn’t you? Drop the lawsuit, and it’s yours.”
Claire’s smirk deepened.
No wonder Madeline was so brazen about framing her.
It was because no matter what Madeline did, right or wrong, Felix was always there to clean up her mess.
Even if she committed murder, Felix would probably make it go away.
“Any condition, right?” Claire turned to face him, a cold smile playing on her lips. “Then agree to the divorce. Sign the papers, and I’ll let your precious Madeline off the hook.”
Felix frowned.
He didn’t answer right away.
Claire scoffed. “What? Not going to do it? Then let your little sweetheart rot in a cell.”
The elevator doors slid open. Claire stepped inside without looking back and pressed the button, clearly done wasting her breath on him.
During the four seconds it took for the doors to close,
Claire held his gaze with absolute icy detachment.
At the very last second, Felix finally spoke. “Fine. I agree.”
Even after re-filing the divorce papers at city hall with Felix, Claire felt a lingering sense of disbelief.
So, what was the point of all her previous, exhausting efforts to persuade him?
Just a waste of time?
Or a test of her endurance?
Outside city hall.
Felix turned to Claire. “It’s snowing. You won’t find a cab. Where are you going? I’ll give you a ride.”
“No need. I have a ride.”
Claire pulled her scarf tighter around her neck and walked out into the snow without a backward glance.
For the past two weeks, the weather reports had been warning the city about the most brutal cold front of the year.
The storm had finally arrived.
The fresh snow crunched under her boots.
Claire trudged through the gathering drifts to the edge of the street to hail a ride.
The truth was, nobody was coming for her.
She just wanted absolutely nothing more to do with Felix.
The snow was falling heavily now, making it nearly impossible to flag down a car.
When Felix’s car pulled out of the parking lot, Claire was still standing in the snow.
He ordered his driver to pull up right in front of her.
Rolling down the window, he offered again.
“Just get in. I’ll drive you.”
“Claire, stop being stubborn. You’re going to freeze.”
He warned her.
Claire pulled her earbuds from her puffer jacket pocket and jammed them in, completely blocking out his voice.
A car honked impatiently from behind them.
The driver glanced at Felix’s expression in the rearview mirror.
Felix didn’t say a word, nor did he indicate they should move.
The driver had no choice but to ignore the honking and stay put.
Claire stepped further down the curb, deliberately moving away from his car.
Her icy expression now carried a trace of blatant annoyance.
The snow fell harder, dusting her hair and shoulders in a thin layer of white.
Her nose was red from the biting wind, her breath forming small white clouds that vanished into the freezing air
Shivering, she rubbed her hands together and stamped her feet,
constantly leaning out toche
the
street, praying for a cab to show up.
Felix watched her every move with a somber gaze, a frown settling on his face.
Would she really rather stand in a blizzard than get in his car?
The honking behind them grew more frantic.
The driver was forced to speak up. “Mr. Quigley…”
Felix pushed his door open, ready to drag her inside himself.
But the moment his foot hit the pavement, a sleek black Bentley gided to a smooth halt right in front of Claire.
Claire blinked in surprise.
Wilbur leaned across the passenger seat and popped the door open. “Get in. I’ll give you a ride.”
