Chapter 1000
The two officers’ expressions instantly became incredibly awkward.
Madeline had cried until her eyes were swollen. When Felix walked in, she called out to him pitifully, sobbing so hard she could barely speak.
Felix offered a few words of comfort before turning to the two officers who had followed him in to grasp the situation.
Finally, he stated, “We would like to settle this matter privately.”
The female officer looked at him with undisguised contempt.
The male officer, maintaining a professional demeanor, replied, “It’s best if disputes like this can be resolved privately. After all, it’s not a major issue.”
“We’ll handle it from here. Thank you for your time.”
After seeing the police out, Felix turned his deep, predatory gaze toward Madeline, asking in a cold tone, “So, you injured your hand yourself?”
Madeline’s eyes were red, and she didn’t dare meet his gaze. “I… I just lost my mind out of anger. She insulted me first.”
Felix stared at her, his deep voice betraying no emotion. “I see. I will handle this. Focus on recovering.”
He paused, then added, “Stop crying. It’s bad for your eyes.”
By the time Felix returned to Old Mrs. Quigley’s room, she was already awake and chatting with Claire.
Claire had a real talent for keeping the elderly happy, and the old woman’s laughter frequently filled the room.
The housekeeper, standing near the door, saw Felix and pulled him aside, lowering her voice. “The old madam is in such a good mood right now. Please don’t go in. Let her spend a little more time with the young madam.”
Felix stopped in his tracks, ultimately respecting the housekeeper’s wishes, and took a seat on a nearby bench.
Inside the room, the old woman was complaining about how stifling the hospital was and wanting to go home.
Claire coaxed her, “Once your test results come back tomorrow, you can go home.”
“Besides, if you go home, you’ll just be all by yourself. It’ll be so boring without me there to chat with you.”
The old woman countered, “Then you can just come home with me!”
“I can’t do that. I’m currently waiting to divorce your grandson. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to go to your house.”
The old woman huffed in frustration. “Remind me to ask your lawyer if my custody

don’t want to live with him anymore,
Claire laughed. “You’ll have to ask your grandson. If he disagrees, there’s nothing I can do.”

After coaxing her back to sleep, Claire quietly slipped out of the room.
She was just about to tell the housekeeper that she was going back to the hotel to
shower and change before returning.
Then she spotted Felix sitting nearby.
“I need to talk to you about something,” Felix said.
“Is it about the divorce?” Claire replied. “If so, I have time. If not, I don’t.”
Felix stared intently at her, a storm brewing in his dark eyes. “It’s about you suing Madeline.”
Claire shut him down immediately. “Then there’s nothing to talk about.”
She turned to leave.
Felix quickly followed her.
“She went too far this time, and I apologize on her behalf. I hope we can settle this privately. There’s no
need to escalate this make public knowledge.”
Claire impatiently jammed her finger against the elevator button multiple times.
But the elevator was taking its time, giving Felix the perfect opportunity to defend his little mistress.
“You can ask for anything you want.”
Claire let out a cold laugh, dripping with sarcasm. “You really treasure her, don’t you?”
