At least… at least she was his wife. That was one thing Noreen could never take from her. But she never imagined that Dylan would ask for a divorce. She had thrown tantrums, started fights, cried, and even begged… But nothing could change Dylan’s mind. He was dead set on divorcing her. Dylan strode over, his gaze flickered downward, his tone icy. “I’ll have the driver take you home.” Crystal resisted. She had come here today to reconcile with Dylan. She had told him clearly that she didn’t want a divorce. She had said she wanted to have a child with him, believing a child would keep him from leaving her. Right there in Dylan’s office, she had taken off her clothes and thrown herself at him. But Dylan had coldly pushed her away. For Crystal, it was a profound humiliation. And so she had fled his office in shame… only to run into Noreen. The moment she saw the woman she had always considered her rival, she lost all composure, unable to bear the thought of them meeting. “I don’t want to.” Crystal clutched at the corner of Dylan’s shirt, pleading with him. “Honey, I don’t want to go home.” “Crystal, I’ve said everything I need to say. From now on, talk to my lawyer.” Dylan pulled his hand away and took a half- step back. Those simple words made Crystal’s entire body go rigid. In that instant, her world collapsed. The last glimmer of light in her eyes was extinguished by Dylan’s coldness. Her reddened eyes locked onto him. He remained impassive. An endless bitterness soured in her heart. Dylan glanced at his assistant. The assistant understood immediately and moved to escort Crystal away. Crystal was practically dragged off. Noreen witnessed all of this, and everything became clear. “It seems today isn’t a good day to report on work,” Noreen said in a light tone. A ripple passed through Dylan’s eyes. “Then let’s not talk about work. It’s lunchtime. How about we grab a bite together?” he invited. “I’m sorry, I have plans,” Noreen replied, using a casual excuse to decline. She was clearly keeping her distance. In that moment, Dylan looked crestfallen. He knew Noreen’s personality well. The hand hanging at his side clenched and unclenched several times before he finally managed to say in a relatively calm voice, “Next time, then.” “I’ll email you the report later.” She was referring to her work report. Dylan felt a pang of disappointment. If she sent an email, it meant she wouldn’t be coming back. They wouldn’t see each other again. Having said what she needed to, Noreen had no intention of lingering and turned to leave. Dylan suddenly called out to her. The words he had kept locked in his heart for so many years rolled on his tongue before he finally spoke them. “Crystal and I are getting a divorce.” Noreen looked at him calmly, her eyes devoid of any emotion, as if she were listening to something utterly insignificant. “If I…” Noreen glanced at her watch. “I’m sorry, I’m in a hurry. We can catch up another time, okay?” She didn’t even wait for his response before turning and walking away quickly. Dylan stood there, stunned, for a long while. That sentence, just like the email from so many years ago, was once again left unsaid, a victim of bad timing.
