Chapter 877
It took less than two days for Claire’s inner promise to become reality.
Since arriving in Rivercrest City, she had been crashing at Noreen’s place. She had originally planned to stay in a hotel, but Noreen had strictly forbidden it. Unable to argue with her Sugar Mommy, she obediently moved into the apartment. Noreen had been out of town on business for the past two days, and Claire, bored out of her mind, decided to go for a night run.
The main reason was that she’d been eating too well and sleeping too normally— her waistline had expanded by nearly half an inch.
Half an inch might be nothing to an average person, but for an actress, it was catastrophic.
She absolutely refused to get out of shape before her divorce was finalized.
Otherwise, that jerk Felix would definitely say something vile like, *’Look how far you’ve let yourself go without me.’*
She was going to show that bastard Felix that she was living her best life without him!
Claire chose to run around the wetlands park right beneath the apartment complex. The scenery was beautiful, and the air was crisp.
Plus, since it was a luxury development, it was practically deserted.
With her headphones in, Claire ran three laps. During her fourth, she spotted someone standing by the railing up ahead.
Another guy was standing next to him, desperately pulling at his arm.
Claire’s overactive imagination immediately went into overdrive.
*Someone’s trying to jump!*
Absolutely not!
A suicide in this luxury complex would tank property values!
If her best friend lost money, she lost money. She had to stop this!
Claire yanked out her headphones and sprinted over. “Hey! You can’t jump off there!”
As she got closer, she recognized the two men.
Talk about a small world!
He had a death wish, and she was more than happy to oblige!
Jude recognized Claire too. “Aren’t you Noreen’s best friend?”
Claire shot him a glacial glare.
Jude shrank back. “Seth… I think she’s here for you.”
Fueled by pure, unadulterated rage,
Claire didn’t bother with
pleasantries. She exploded, “Seth, why the hell are you haunting her like a ghost? Noreen finally
veim
managed to shake you off. Can’t you just disappear and stop showing your face?”
“Or do you just think she’s an easy target, so you’re determined to ruin her life?”
The more Claire yelled, the angrier she got. Her fury skyrocketed until she was screaming at him, “I have never met a bigger piece of trash
than you! She gave up her chan

Jude stood to the side, practically turning to stone.
This woman… was insanely brave.
Screaming at Seth like that? Jude was absolutely certain Seth had never been
dressed down by anyone in his entire life.
In truth, Claire wasn’t naturally brave.
On the contrary, her traumatic childhood had made her hyper-cautious, leaving her
with a desperate need to please people.
After all, growing up, saying the wrong thing meant going to bed hungry.
Or worse, getting beaten black and blue.
But for Noreen, she would go to war against the devil himself.
Seth’s face was terrifyingly dark.
His cold expression radiated a deeply intimidating, simmering rage.
It was indeed the first time anyone had ever spoken to him like this.
But he had to take it.
Because she was Noreen’s best friend.
Because he knew she meant far more to Noreen than he ever did.
So much more that he didn’t dare say a single word in his own defense.
Seeing things spiral, Jude tried to intervene. “Hey, you’re an outsider. Keep your nose out of their relationship. It’s not what you think. Seth had his reasons.”
