Felix watched her every move.
When he saw her sign without a moment’s hesitation, his heart suddenly clenched.
The papers in his hand, though light as a feather, felt like a mountain pressing down on his chest.
It was getting hard to breathe.

How could she sign the papers so easily?
Or was this just another one of her tricks, another way of playing hard to get?
For a moment, Felix couldn’t tell. His jaw tightened.
Old Mrs. Quigley was growing impatient and prompted him, “Well, sign it. What are you staring at?”
Felix’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He felt numb, and his voice was hoarse when he spoke. “I need my lawyer to review the terms.”
He had barely finished his sentence when Old Mrs. Quigley kicked him in the shin. “So now you don’t even trust me? Fine. I’ll ask a lawyer, too—about how I can disown you!”
Felix felt a massive headache coming on. “Grandma, I’m just following standard procedure.”
“My procedure is the only procedure that matters! Sign it now and stop wasting time!” Old Mrs. Quigley was determined to get a result.
She even declared, “My dear girl is in the prime of her life. Don’t you dare waste it. A woman’s youth is short enough as it is, it’s not worth wasting on someone like you!”
“Once you two are divorced, I can start arranging dates for her. If you make her miss out on her soulmate, can you afford to pay that price?”
Felix’s expression grew even darker.
He knew his grandmother’s temperament. If he didn’t give her a clear answer, she would likely stay here until he did.
He could wait, but her health might not allow it.
As if on cue, Bianca, standing nearby, tried to soothe the old woman. “The doctor said your blood pressure is high. You need to remain calm and avoid any major emotional swings.”
Claire also hurried to pat her back. “That’s right, Grandma. Don’t get worked up.”
Then she looked at Felix. “Just sign it. If you have any issues with the terms, we can discuss them during the cooling-off period.”
Only then did Felix sign his name.
In her youth, Old Mrs. Quigley had always been a woman of decisive action, and she was true to her word.
She immediately took them both to City Hall.
When Felix saw her pull their marriage certificate and identification papers out of here purse, his face went completely black.
Claire hadn’t expected her grandmother to be so thoroughly prepared either.

If she had even half of her grandmother’s decisiveness, she could succeed at anything!
After ensuring the two of them had filed the paperwork, Old Mrs. Quigley felt a weight lift from her shoulders She told Claire she had booked a flight back to Northcrest for that evening and would be leaving soon, reminding her to take care of herself.
To eat on time.
To sleep well.
And if she ever got tired, to come home for a visit.
The doors to their home would always be open for her.
Claire didn’t know what to say, so in the end, she just gave the old woman a hug.
After seeing her grandmother off, Claire turned to leave, with no intention of getting a ride from Felix.
But Felix quickly caught up to her. “Where are you going? I’ll give you a ride.”
“No, thanks. I’m not so broke I can’t afford a taxi,” Claire refused swiftly.
Felix’s brow furrowed slightly. “Why do you always speak to me in that tone?”
So many of their arguments ended badly because of her temper.
Felix always wished Claire could be more dignified and gentle.
He wanted her to give up her career
