Chapter 44
“If you hadn’t noticed what was wrong and jumped in to help, my son could’ve been in real danger p>
Amanda grabbed Claire’s hands, her face completely sincere.
Claire hesitated. “You’re welcome Wait, weren’t they supposed to be here to blame her for something?
Why did she feel a little let down?
Lily looked even more shocked, staring in disbelief.
“Amanda, weren’t you About to cause trouble?
Why was she thanking Claire instead?
Amanda turned to Lily, her voice turning serious. “Lily, I never said I was here to make a scene. You misunderstood me. I’m truly grateful to Claire, and honestly, I wish more people were as kind as she is. But p>
Lily bit her lip, clearly unhappy.
“Seriously, stop being jealous. Why would a young, pretty girl like Claire ever fall for my pig-headed son p>
Claire couldn’t help it. She snorted out a laugh.
Amanda really was something. She didn’t even spare her own son when she was worked up.
“Only the shallow girls, who only care about our money, would go chasing after my foolish son p>
Claire glanced over and saw Lily’s expression turn stormy.
If Lily wanted to marry into a wealthy family but couldn’t handle a little shade like this, she probably wasn’t cut out for it.
“Claire, am I interrupting your meal p>
Amanda let go of Claire’s hands and didn’t even glance at Lily. “I just wanted to get your contact info. My husband and I want to invite you to dinner sometime to say thank you p>
Claire shook her head. “That’s very kind, but there’s really no need p>
Amanda looked at her husband, not sure what to do if Claire wouldn’t even accept a meal.
Larkin stepped forward and handed Claire a business card. “Claire, here’s my card Our family owes you one. If. you ever need anything, dont hesitate to reach out p>
Claire could tell these two knew how to handle people.
If she didn’t take the card, they’d just keep pressing.
She took it with a smile. “Alright, thank you. I’ll keep this p>
Larkin and Amanda finally relaxed, thanked Abbott as well, and left.
Meanwhile, Lily ended up totally embarrassed, her plan backfiring as she hurried away.
After all that, Claire didn’t feel like finishing her meal. She packed up her food and left the hospital.
Abbott went with her. First, they headed to Hearth & Kettle to pick up Pandora.
Then they all went to the hotel where Baldrick was staying.
Jennifer had already figured out that
Eaton’s parents were sharp
business people and had no intention of making trouble for
tom
Hearth & Kettle. She knew how to
play her cards.
In just a short time, Jennifer and Pandora had become as close as mother and daughter.
When she heard Pandora was leaving, Jennifer looked genuinely sad to see her go and insisted on sending lots of food with them.
“I heard Mr. Baldrick isn’t feeling well enough to come by, so I made sure to have this meal packed just for him p>
She had the kitchen bring out the food, all boxed up.
Dane could tell this was all for Pandora’s sake.
He motioned for Jack to take the food. “Thank you, Jennifer p>
“No problem,” Jennifer replied, waving him off. Then she turned to Pandora, Don’t forget your promise. You’ll come back tomorrow. I
“I will,” Pandora promised, knowing she’d promised to visit Daniel and wouldn’t go back on her word.
Claire noticed Pandora clutching something in her hand and asked, curious, “What did Jennifer sneak you p>
