The police weren’t about to let any trafficker get away. They’d been cracking down on abductions for years, and honestly, every family hated traffickers with a passion.
Claire nodded. “I only realized something was off because she got weird whenever I mentioned the police or the hospital. If she was really the kid’s mom, and her child’s face was hurt, she would’ve rushed straight to the hospital p>
“If she had asked me to take her to the hospital, I probably wouldn’t have suspected anything. But all she wanted was my hemostatic spray p>
You could see the greed in the woman’s eyes when she asked for it. She didn’t even try to hide it.
“Is your spray really that good?” one of the officers asked, clearly curious. Earlier, when they’d been talking to the other people involved, everyone had mentioned how amazing Claire’s spray was.
Sure, there were medicines that helped wounds heal, but something that could stop bleeding instantly, just with a spray? That sounded almost too good to be true. No wonder the trafficker had wanted it so badly.
“It works really well, but I’m out of it now,” Claire said. She’d only brought two bottles —one for Edison and one for Valeria. Edison’s was probably finished by now, and Valeria’s had just a little left. They’d been using it nonstop to help people with minor injuries.
“Sorry if this is a weird question, but where did you buy it? What’s it called?” another officer asked. He wasn’t the only one curious. Even some of the witnesses had quietly asked the police to help them find out. They wanted to buy some, too-one for home, one for the car, one to carry around. Who wouldn’t?
“If you’re hoping to buy it, I have to disappoint you. It’s custom-made, not sold anywhere, and they don’t make much of it p>
The officer studied Claire for a moment. She looked every bit the part of a rich girl— her clothes, her whole vibe. Someone like her having custom products wasn’t that surprising.
“So it must be pretty expensive?” the officer guessed, sounding a little jealous They got injured at work the time and something like that would come in handy. But anything labeled “custom-made” was@sually way out of reach for regular people.
“It’s not really about the price. It’s just super hard to get,” Claire replied, not in the
mood to explain further. She honestly couldn’t be bothered.
The officer noticed Claire didn’t want to talk about it anymore, so he let it go.
Soon, Valeria and Edison showed up, one after the other.
“Valeria,” Claire called, waving her over.
Valeria was actually three or four years older than Claire, but you’d never guess from looking at them Valeria’s easygoing, bubbly
personality made her seem younger, while Claire even though she was younger-always felt more calm and steady.
“Claire, are you alright? And what about the kid?” Valeria asked, immediately checking on Claire first, then the child. It was such a thoughtful way to show she cared.
Claire shook her head, smiling a little. She was fine. Then she filled Valeria in on what had happened with the child.
The police had both traffickers in custody and would be questioning them soon. As for the child, they still needed to put out an official notice to find her family. They were checking all the reports of missing kids, and as soon as they found the right family, they’d contact the parents to come and pick her up.
“That girl was really lucky you found her,” one of the officers said quietly.
If Claire and her friends hadn’t noticed the signs, that child’s face would’ve been ruined. And a kid with scars probably wouldn’t have been worth much to those traffickers.
