Chapter 134
Claire looked like she kind of got it, but not really. “What about you p>
Edison paused, a rare moment of quiet, before he smiled. “When I was younger, I did think about marrying her. After that, I just never met the right person p>
Claire couldn’t help rolling her eyes inside. That whole “never met the right person” thing? Total playboy talk. Guys like that loved to use it as an excuse to string girls along.
She leaned in, curiosity getting the better of her. “So, if you do meet the right person, would you get married p>
Edison thought she only acted like a kid when she got nosy like this. Still, he decided to humor her. “If I meet someone I really like, someone I want to keep by my side, I guess I’d want to get married.” He almost laughed to himself. Otherwise, what if she ran off with someone else, the way Tania did?
His answer was kind of surprising, but also kind of not. Claire just found it funny that even a guy as impressive as Edison was worried about his future wife running off.
She let the conversation drop after that, yawned, and soon drifted off to sleep.
When they finally got home, Edison noticed how deeply she was sleeping and didn’t have the heart to wake her. Claire only stirred when she felt the car stop. She woke up, sort of, but her brain was still lagging behind. Hugging her stuff, she wandered into her room half-asleep, peeled off her bloody clothes, took a quick shower, and fell into bed.
She was late for school the next day. She’d gone to bed way too late, and Edison hadn’t wanted to wake her. Pandora was even more protective. When she found out her granddaughter had been in a car accident-thankfully unharmed—and had stayed out late helping someone, she just called the school and got Claire excused for the day.
The car crash had been all over the news, so the teachers already knew what happened. Some of them were worried. “Claire’s grandmother, is Claire alright?” one asked. “It’s totally fine if she needs to rest for a day p>
Claire’s grades were stellar, so missing a day was no big deal. Pandora relaxed, glad the teachers were so understanding. “Thank you for your concern. She’s fine p>
With everything settled, Pandora
was happy that her granddaughter could just sleep in. She decided to head to the office, something Edison had suggested. Pandora hardly ever went to the company, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t Her showing u to review the accounts would definitely keep everyone on their toes.
VIA Metropolis was about to team up with a hot new brand, and everyone was working hard to prepare for their arrival. The whole group was taking it seriously.
Claire slept straight through to lunchtime. When she woke up and saw the sun blazing outside, she knew she’d totally missed schoot, Pandora had left her a note on the table, and breakfast was still warm the pot, made by the housekeeper Edison had hired just for them.

Knowing Pandora had gone to the office, Claire tried to imagine what that looked
like. If Pandora dressed up for the job, she probably looked super intimidating.
Claire didn’t overthink it. She got herself ready and took her time heading to school. On her way out she grabbed a shared e-scooter from the apartment complex. She knew parking would be a pain if she drove, but an e-scooter was easy enough.
Midway there, Edison called. When he found out she was on an e-scooter, he sounded like he didn’t know whether to laugh or scold her.
“Why didn’t you call me? I could’ve sent the driver to pick you up p>
“Pandora said you could rest at home today. You don’t have to go to school p>
All Edison got in response was a loud, static-y screech from Claire’s end, making him wince.
