Chapter 262
Claire clearly had no intention of stepping up. She just blinked, all wide-eyed and innocent, refusing to say a word. It almost felt like she was waiting for Tiffany to apologize first.
Tiffany’s chest rose and fell with frustration, but in front of Padgett, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and give in. “Sorry, Claire, I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions. I was only trying to look out for you p>
Before she could finish, Claire cut in. “Tiffany, you really can’t go around accusing people without knowing the facts. We’re family, so I can let it go, but people outside won’t be as forgiving. If you keep this habit of speaking your mind without thinking, you might end up offending someone who’ll take it out on Yolande. As a parent, even if you don’t care about yourself, you should at least think about your kid. Don’t you think so p>
To everyone else, Claire’s words sounded gentle, maybe even caring. But Tiffany felt like Claire was threatening her. Was Claire warning that if Tiffany messed up again, both Yolande and Arthur would be the ones to pay? How cruel. That mouth of hers was just as sharp as Melissa’s.
Padgett nodded, acting like he was delivering some great wisdom. “Claire’s right. Family won’t hold a grudge, but outsiders might. You really need to watch your words p>
Tiffany felt her ears burning. Getting scolded like this in front of the younger generation was beyond embarrassing. She barely managed to sit through a few more minutes before she found a random excuse, grabbed Yolande, and left.
The second they stepped out of The Churchill Estate, Tiffany’s face dropped. She shot her daughter an angry glare. “Yolande, how could you side with outsiders and let them bully your own mother? I’m your real mom, not some evil stepmother, right p>
Yolande looked at her in confusion. “Mom, can you please stop making things up? You started all of this. What does it matter to you what clothes she wears? You were the one who insisted her outfit was a knockoff p>
Tiffany was so furious she wanted
to pinch her daughter’s ear.
“Yolande are you really that clueless Who do you think I’m. doing this for? I’m pretty sure Octavia and the others bought those clothes for her. How else could they be real p>
Yolande just couldn’t get her mom’s logic. “So what if Octavia bought them? Claire just got back to the family. Isn’t it totally normal for Octavia to help her out with some clothes? Or do you think that if they buy something for Claire, they have to buy something for the too? Are you calling her clothes fake just because Octavia didn’t offer to get you anything p>
Having her true thoughts called out, Tiffany’s embarrassment turned into anger. “Everything I do is for you and you don’t even appreciate it! Before, whenever Octavia and the others, got something nice, they always thought of you. Now Claire’s back, and their attitude toward you has totally changed. Don’t you feel it? She’s come in and taken everything that’s supposed to be yours. Even when Padgett saw his granddaughter, it was like you weren’t even there p>
Tiffany simply couldn’t accept it. She always thought she was the smart one-so how did she end up with such a dense daughter?
Yolande, on the other hand, thought her mom was just being paranoid. “Mom, you said it yourself, I’m only a grand-niece. Claire is his real granddaughter. Isn’t it normal for them to like her more? She hasn’t taken anything from me p>
Her mom was just never satisfied. If she kept pushing, she would end up ticking off Padgett for real.
