Chapter 276
He really couldn’t take over someone else’s job.
Baldrick looked at Claire.
This time, Claire didn’t try to hide anything. “I’m Baldrick’s doctor p>
Padgett stared at her, thinking he must have heard wrong. Claire was still a student. How could she possibly be Baldrick’s doctor?
“The doctor Baldrick wanted to see was actually my teacher. But he passed away. Baldrick couldn’t wait for treatment, so I stepped in, even though I’m still learning,” Claire explained.
Padgett’s first reaction was to blurt out, “So you’re the one who tricked me out of my snow lotus p>
Claire laughed. “Grandpa, I didn’t trick you. But to be fair, medicine made with the snow lotus really does work better than the regular stuff. Besides, you were the only one who had one on hand p>
She had said before that if they couldn’t find the snow lotus, other herbs would work. But Baldrick actually found one. Her grandfather had handed it over willingly. Nobody from the Green family forced him. That wasn’t on her.
It wasn’t her fault at all.
Padgett just shook his head. “Well, I don’t even know what to say.” He hesitated, then asked, “You really know medicine? You think you can actually cure Baldrick’s rheumatism p>
He went on, “Didn’t you see how Achilles kept going on and on about how traditional medicine couldn’t possibly cure Baldrick? He basically wanted to say it was worthless p>
Padgett rolled his eyes. “He even said you were just using something harsh to cover up the symptoms for now, hinting that Baldrick would get worse later p>
It wasn’t that Padgett hated Achilles. Achilles just always acted like he was better than everyone else. Now that he knew his own granddaughter was the doctor, Achilles seemed even more hypocritical.
Claire couldn’t help but smile. “He didn’t actually say I used anything harsh, Grandpa p>
Even if Achilles had implied it, he hadn’t come right out and said it. He was still a respected professor at the medical school.
Padgett snorted. “That’s exactly what he meant. Don’t think I don’t know him. He’s always acted like he came from some grand family scholars and doctors. He looks down or anyone who gets their hands dirty with business, but he’s not above it himself p>
Padgett gave Claire a knowing look. “You know, the wife he married was from a really wealthy family. He got to chase his dream of being a poor doctor because his wife’s family was loaded. He never had to worry about money p>
Padgett shook his head, remembering the old days. “Later, during those years of upheaval, he and his wife split up. Pandora didn’t make it, but Achilles did p>
Padgett never had much good to say about Achilles.
Claire didn’t get into it. She just said, “If Baldrick wants, he can go to the hospital with Achilles and get checked out. Hospitals are authoritative. If he gets tested, Achilles won’t have anything to worry about p>
She had put that last part pretty cleverly.
Padgett looked at Claire, a little surprised and impressed. She wasn’t just some naive girl. If she really was too innocent, he’d be worried about her marrying into the Green family. The family was small, but there were still plenty of people circling around, waiting to take advantage. If you were too simple, you’d get eaten alive.
Padgett nodded. “Claire’s right. It wouldn’t hurt to get checked p>
Baldrick saw Claire agreed, so he nodded too.
There was no reason to keep things from Padgett, but when it came time for acupuncture, Claire still didn’t let him stay in the room. She didn’t want Padgett hovering and making her nervous.
