Cindy looked at York like he was her last hope.

“Next time, try not to wander off, okay?” York actually liked the way Cindy depended on him. It was completely different from what he’d had with Claire.

Claire had always been so independent, in every possible way. With her, York sometimes wondered if he just wasn’t good enough for her. Cindy tried to find Claire in the crowd, but she was already gone. She had no choice but to look away.

Claire and Lawler walked together to the hospital entrance. Lawler already knew what Claire was going through, but since it was her personal life, he never asked about it. Still, there was something on his mind that he couldn’t quite say out loud.

“Lawler, if you want to ask me something, just say it. No need to keep hesitating,” Claire said.

“Actually, I just wanted to ask about my mom’s illness. If you were the one treating her… do you really think you could have helped her get better p>

“Unless we meet someone else with the same illness-there’s no point to all this what-ifs p>

“The people who pass away are at peace. The living shouldn’t torture themselves over regrets forever p>

“If you really want to do something

for her, maybe you can research a treatment plan. It doesn’t matter if it uses traditional medicine or something modern-if you help more people, you find a way to heal your regrets too p>

Lawler let out a sad little laugh. “I wish I could be as clear-headed as you p>

No wonder their mentor said Claire had an unlimited future in medicine.

“Probably just because I wasn’t the one who had to live through it,” Claire said quietly. She wasn’t bragging or being modest, just honest.

“I actually have a kind of… big favor

to ask.” Lawler had gone home

“If it’s a really big favor, then maybe you shouldn’t even ask,” Claire replied right away.

old medical notes. Back when he was treating my mom, he kept lots of records. Maybe you could talk to him about it p>
