Chapter 311
Claire listened patiently.
Pandora said, “Daniel heard you’re at Silverpeak International College, so he wanted to send you a gift p>
Claire blinked, a little surprised. A gift from Daniel? She hadn’t expected that.
“What kind of gift?” she asked.
“He bought a place across from your campus and put it under your name p>
Claire froze. “Wait, didn’t Edison already say he’d sorted out housing for me p>
Pandora shrugged. “If someone is offering, why not take it p>
“You could live in one and rent out the other p>
“Don’t you want to know what it’s like making money as a landlord p>
The logic actually made sense. Claire couldn’t even argue.
“But with your and Daniel’s relationship, wouldn’t it be kind of weird for me to just accept a place from him?” Claire still hesitated.
Pandora didn’t flinch. “Relax, I already thanked him for you and accepted on your behalf p>
Claire let out a laugh. “You move fast p>
Pandora smiled slightly. “I figured you’d be hung up on my connection to him and overthink it p>
She’d definitely called that. Pandora was always a step ahead.
“It’s not that I’m shy about it. If you say it’s handled, I’ll accept it p>
Pandora nodded, looking satisfied.
She had every bit of confidence as a member of the James family. Plus, with Claire’s skills as a doctor, Pandora figured expensive gifts would be the norm soon enough. One apartment might seem like a lot right now, but down the road, it probably wouldn’t mean much.
Claire paused, and honestly, she didn’t even think an apartment was that big of a deal at this point. The welcome gifts from her grandfather’s family could buy
several apartments like this.
Just then, Edison came over to talk to Pandora about work. Mostly, he wanted to get
away from his grandma endlessly prodding him about marriage.
Every year he came back single, she
gave him lectures and put on a show even cried. This year, he actually brought someone home and she still found something to nag about-now she was pushing him to get married and have kids.
It honestly left Edison stumped. He couldn’t figure out what his grandmother really wanted.
Pandora explained, “Your grandma just wants to see the family continue. She’s
afraid there won’t be anyone to carry the torch p>
That made sense. She probably
worried that, no matter how
successful Edison was, he was still
working for Pandora if he never had
orking f
an heir, who would all that success
goto?
Pandora understood perfectly. She paid Edison well-of course Vicki didn’t want that future to go to someone else’s kids. She wanted a grandchild, plain and simple.
Edison groaned. “Times have changed, though p>
If he really wanted a kid, there would be plenty of women who’d step up for the job. But he’d never wanted marriage to pin him down.
Yet, his thoughts drifted to Jenny, wild and passionate as she was. He glanced over
at her, feeling like maybe they had something real.
“If you actually like Jenny, treat her right,” Pandora said, cutting through his thoughts.
Pandora could read people like a book. “If you two like each other, give it a shot. If you’re not ready for kids, don’t worry about it p>
“As long as I’m here, your grandma isn’t going to hassle you in Apex p>
Vicki had even threatened to move in with him, supposedly for city life, but really she just wanted to meddle in Edison’s relationships.
Pandora was not about to let that happen.
“Thanks, you’re the best,” Edison said with a grateful smile.
Being in charge of the family meant Pandora had always looked out for everyone.
She headed back to her room and came out with a necklace a delicate jade Buddha pendant.
Pearce’s son had brought it back from Kaston.
