“Claire, you and Jenny knew each other before all this, didn’t you p>
Edison was sharp, head of VIA Group for a reason.
“What are you talking about, Edison?” Claire leaned back, trying to dodge the question.
“If you and Jenny weren’t close, why did SUNNY immediately call to cancel their partnership with our mall after you got treated unfairly p>
Edison’s argument was seamless. “After you found out it was our family’s mall, you called Jenny, didn’t you p>
That explained why Edison got a call from Jenny that night, and how VIA Metropolis ended up landing the deal.
“Jenny’s attitude always mirrors yours p>
“And when I picked you up in Cabinda, you were wearing SUNNY too p>
SUNNY hadn’t even launched in Solenia yet, but Claire owned several pieces, and
all of them were special releases from different years.
Claire grinned. “You got me. Jenny and I met when I was studying abroad p>
“You really know how to keep a secret,” Edison joked.
He honestly wasn’t upset with her.
From his perspective, she’d used her connections to stand up for herself, and even managed to put pressure on the mall. He thought it was smart.
“What’s the big deal? Everyone has friends,” Claire replied, then closed her eyes, drifting off for a nap.
By the time they reached home, it was past midnight.
Dogs in the village barked like crazy as Edison dropped Claire off at the old family house.
Pandora heard the noise and came to open the door.
“Pandora,” Edison said respectfully as soon as he saw her.
“You must be tired, Edison. Come in, have some hot tea,” Pandora said, welcoming them inside.
The house was already filled with the scent of ginger tea.
Edison downed a bowl, and so did Claire.
Soon after, Edison headed to his own place for some rest.
Claire sat up a little longer, updating Pandora on her visits to the Churchill and Green families.
“That was the right thing to do. If you’re already in Cabinda, it makes sense to pay those visits p>
“Classes start again after the holidays, so you don’t need to make another trip p>
“These past few days must have been tough. You look thinner p>
Pandora’s eyes were sharp, but her tone was full of warmth.
Claire touched her face, faking surprise. “Really? Then you’ll have to cook something good for me p>
“Of course, I will. You’ll get your strength back in no time p>
“You should go to bed soon. Just look at your dark circles p>
Pandora could tell Claire hadn’t rested, probably pulling an all-nighter to help someone. She didn’t have the beart to let her stay up any Honger.
After being nudged a couple of times, Claire finally went to her room.
Pandora called it a night too.
The next morning, Claire slept until ten.
The minute she woke up, the smell of chicken soup hit her.

Almost on instinct, Claire wandered into the kitchen.
“Claire, you’re up,” Patti greeted her, clearly happy to see her.
Pandora was there too, sitting by the stove, soaking up the warmth but not actually tending the fire herself.
Jenny was there as well, occasionally tossing a couple of logs onto the fire.
Seeing Jenny, Claire suddenly remembered that she’d let her guard down last night with Edison.
She’d been all ready to interrogate
Jenny about how things were going
with Edison, but in the end, Edison turned the tables on her and got her toadmit that she and Jenny were old friends.
He really was a pro at this.

Jenny got up and gave her a warm hug.
She was wearing an outfit Vicki had made, a beautiful traditional winter jacket.
“Do you like my clothes p>
