Chapter 421
“Wow, that impressive?” Osborn said, playing it cool, though deep down he felt a little disappointed. For kids like Claire, with that kind of family background and every advantage, joining the entertainment industry was just an extra feather in their cap. It was never actually necessary for them. Even if Claire really had a gift for acting, it wasn’t going to be her main thing. No wonder she wasn’t interested at all.
Oakley and Elena were both surprised by how good Claire was on camera. Oakley just shrugged it off, figuring there was no way Claire would be competing with him for parts. Honestly, he seemed to look at her with genuine appreciation.
Elena, on the other hand, was starting to panic. It was bad enough that she wasn’t as young or as pretty as Claire, but now it seemed like she wasn’t as smart either. If they ever ended up rivals, Elena doubted she’d come out on top. And then there was Claire’s backing-Karla and that impressive family. Meanwhile, Elena’s side just saw her as a money-maker. As soon as she wasn’t useful, they’d toss her away without a second thought.
“Oakley, aren’t you even the tiniest bit worried she’ll try to break into the industry and steal your limelight?” Elena said, her tone not as casual as she pretended. “She’s basically royalty around here.” Claire was Karla’s niece after all. If Karla was set on pushing Claire forward, Oakley would just have to step aside. Claire might not necessarily snag Oakley’s roles, but it was a real possibility that Oakley would be asked to mentor her or even help her get established. With Karla pulling the strings, there was no easy way to say no.
Oakley didn’t even flinch. “She’s not planning to get into this business. You really don’t need to be so on edge.” He shot Elena a look that made it clear he saw right through her attempt to stir up drama. From where he stood, Claire had zero interest in showbiz. She didn’t follow any celebrities, didn’t gush about actors, so why in the world would she want to be one?
Right then, an assistant came over. “Oakley, you’re up for the next scene.” This one looked dangerous, so they needed extra prep.
Claire overheard a mention of explosions. Noticing Karla seemed uneasy, she spoke up, “Karla, I’m actually not in a hurry. Why don’t we stay and watch Oakley’s scene before we head out p>
Karla agreed immediately. She was always happy to see Claire being so thoughtful.
The director had someone set out a couple of small chairs for them. Karla barely sat down before making her way over to check in on Oakley. Claire ended up chatting casually with the director while they waited.
Oakley’s scene was exactly the kind people get hooked on in action movies— rescuing someone while driving through an explosion. It was intense and serious, nothing like what you see in everyday life.
“You’ve probably only watched stunts like this on screen before, right?” Osborn tried to sound casual, almost hoping it would pique Claire’s curiosity and maybe even tempt her toward acting. Hard to say if she’d go for it.
“It definitely looks exciting, but as long as everything’s planned out, everyone’s communicating, and the actors listen, it’s usually pretty safe,” he continued. Someone like Oakley, with that martial arts trainingand fitness, he’s not likely to run into trouble p>
Claire thought he was being overly optimistic. Scenes like this could be dangerous there were so many stories of actors getting hurt for shot. Some actors toughed it out and kept quiet just for the sake of the fum, but others wouldn’tever think about risking themselves and would call in a stunt double the second things looked risky.
Osborn didn’t press the issue. He picked up his megaphone and started yelling instructions, making sure every department was on top of their game. This wasn’t the kind of scene you could afford to mess up.
In the movie, Elena’s character was
kidnapped by thugs. Oakley’s character was supposed to chase after them, gunning the car through a storm of explosioning this was a huge risk- the the set had been cleared, but Oakley was actually in the driver’s seat, racing through the smoke. Visibility would be terrible, and he really had to steer through the chaos.
