Tilda lit up. “That’s amazing p>

She offered her hand right away, too excited to hide it.

Ever since Claire saved Van, Tilda had been in awe of her abilities. Now, watching Claire check her pulse so calmly, it was impossible to guess what she was thinking. Claire never gave anything away, not even when taking a pulse, so Tilda just waited as patiently as she could.

Once Claire let go, Tilda finally blurted out, “So, is something wrong with me p>

Truthfully, Tilda had been stressing over her irregular cycles. She was scared it might mess with her fertility. Both the Hawk family and her own had high expectations. In her head, she’d already planned for two kids-one would take Van’s last name, the other hers. She had even told Van about it and he was all for it. But if she couldn’t have children at all, she felt she’d be letting him down, plus there was the pressure from Walden’s side.

Claire glanced at her. “Tilda, how late are you p>

Tilda noticed the concern in Claire’s eyes, but Claire sounded so relaxed.

“It’s been over two weeks,” Tilda sighed. “My periods are always weird, and every time, it hurts like crazy p>

She tried to brush it off. “I’m used to being late, but I’ve just felt off lately, so I thought I should come in for a checkup p>

Too bad she’d come in so late that the results wouldn’t be ready until tomorrow. At least running into Claire seemed like a small stroke of luck.

Suddenly, Claire asked, “So, are you and Van thinking of getting married soon p>

The question caught Tilda completely off guard. “Yeah, we’ve talked about getting engaged. If we can have the wedding this year, it’ll probably be at the end of the year p>

Claire smiled. “You might want to push up the date p>

That totally threw Tilda off. Move the wedding up? What was going on?

“Why?” She stared blankly at Claire.

Claire’s eyes sparkled. “You’re pregnant, Tilda p>

Tilda just froze. “Wait, seriously p>

She studied Claire’s face. “Are you messing with me p>

Claire’s lips curled up. “Why would I joke about something like this? I can feel it for your pulse if you don’t believe me, go to a traditional medicine clinic or just wait for your test results tomorrow p>

She added, “Or, you could just grab a pregnancy test and find out for yourself p>

That last suggestion stuck with Tilda. “I’ll go buy one right now p>

They both knew morning urine was more reliable, but Tilda couldn’t wait. She drove straight to the pharmacy and bought a whole handful of pregnancy tests Literally, her hand was full of them.

Claire couldn’t help but laugh. “Tilda, are you trying to buy the entire stock?” Tilda felt a little sheepish. “I just figured if one brand is off, I’d have a backup.” Claire rolled her eyes, but smiled. “Alright, go try them out p>

She waited in front of the restroom, and a few minutes later, Tilda burst out clutching all the tests.

“Two lines, Claire! Every single one has two lines! Check for me, please p>

Any embarrassment Tilda might have felt was gone. She didn’t care if people heard.

Claire checked each stick. The lines were faint, but they were definitely there. “Yep, you’re pregnant,” she said, as calm as ever.

Tilda realized she probably looked ridiculous, celebrating in public over a pregnancy test, and in front of someone younger, too.

Claire nudged her gently. “You should call Van and tell him the news p>

Tilda took a deep breath and collected herself. “Let’s eat first. I’ll wait until my

hospital results are official tomorrow, then call him. There’s still time p>

She was older than Van, and both of

them were at the age where marriage made sense Now that baby was coming, there was no time to lose when it came to their future together.
