Chapter 450
This was even more ridiculous than stopping her from joining the competition in the first place.
“Claire, what was Octavia even trying to do? I honestly don’t get it p>
“Why would she suddenly bring up your early admission? Does she actually expect you to give that spot to Cindy p>
Anyone with half a brain would know that’s impossible.
If college spots could just be handed over, wouldn’t every university be a complete mess? Cabinda University is a top place. There’s no way they’d allow something like that. A guaranteed spot given to anyone the student liked? Imagine if it went to someone who could barely make the cut. Why would the university want that? Just to tank their own success rates? In the end, it would just trash Cabinda University’s entire reputation.
“My adoptive mother p>
She swallowed the harsher words that sat on her tongue. She wouldn’t trash Octavia in front of Shirley. It felt like the least she could do.
“Seriously, how could Octavia act like this?” Shirley let out a sigh.
She used to think Octavia was just fake, but now she realized she was flat-out awful. Watching it all unfold, Shirley suddenly felt sorry for Claire. Claire grew up with Octavia, and now Octavia was doing this to her? That had to sting.
“It’s whatever. She’s just thinking about her real daughter,” Claire said. If she knew what Shirley was thinking, she probably would have burst out laughing.
Feel hurt by Octavia? Not a chance.
Octavia was always like this-selfish, never caring about Claire, and definitely never loving her.
Shirley might think Octavia was outrageous, but Octavia would never see herself that way.
“Hey, want me to stay over tonight? I can keep you company p>
“Why would you do that?” Claire didn’t want Shirley hanging around. The girl was non-stop, like eight hundred ducks quacking at once.
“I just want to take care of you, duh p>
“You hurt yourself saving my idol. I should look after you for a couple days,” Shirley said, looking for all the world like she totally believed it was her duty.
Claire shot her a look. “You just want to stick around because nobody’s here to nag you and you think it’s fun, right p>
“If you stay, you can’t skip your homework. You have to keep up with your studies- every day, on a real schedule p>
“Didn’t your idol say you should get into a good college? Weren’t you just saying you were going to get serious about studying p>
Shirley wasn’t dumb, but she was one of those people who only studied when someone forced her.
“Can I start tomorrow? I still have two episodes left to watch tonight p>
Claire’s face immediately turned stern. “No way p>
“I didn’t bring my books,” Shirley tried, desperate for an excuse.
“That’s all right. I’ve got books here p>
Shirley looked like the joy had drained out of her. Can I at least finish my two episodes before I start p>
Claire just stared. “What do you think p>
Ugh. Shirley knew she’d lost.
She had no choice but to head to Claire’s study and hit the books.
Claire stayed in the room, too. They worked in silence, not bothering each other. When Shirley got stuck, she asked Claire for help. Claire was on practice exams, way ahead Shirley was just trying to keep up.

“You can start from the top, or if your teacher gave out a study guide, follow that,” Claire suggested when she saw Shirley totally lost content.net>
“My schedule’s different from yours,” Claire said, tapping the practice test. “I’m just going back over my weak spots now. I finished everything else”.
Shirley put her hands together as if bowing. “I am in awe of you p>
She grinned, sending Claire a dramatic, playful salute.
