Barry almost said no, because research was all about keeping up the momentum. But then he remembered how tough exams are. Some students even end up with a fever for days, just from the stress and exhaustion.

“Alright, take two days. And listen, if you start feeling sick or anything, please don’t push yourself p>

At least Claire felt fine for now. She was a doctor herself, so she’d know right away if something was wrong. Plus, with Pandora always making her exercise since she was a kid, she was in pretty good shape.

Claire was the last one to arrive at Daniel’s hospital room.

By then, the three inside had pretty much finished catching up. Jennifer was slicing fruit for the two older women. When she saw Claire, she handed her a banana.

Claire took it, peeled it, and ate as she walked over.

“Daniel’s been looking a lot better these days,” she said after finishing her banana and taking his pulse.

“Seems like you’re recovering pretty well. Not hurting as much at night now, right?” Daniel was a bit thinner than the last time she’d seen him, but he definitely had more energy. That had to mean the treatment was working.

“Yeah, it doesn’t hurt nearly as much. Honestly, my mood’s been better too. I’ve actually been craving a big plate of bacon lately Daniel glanced down at his hands and joked, “Feels like I’m wasting away over here p>

Jennifer, even though she felt for her dad, made sure he followed the doctors’ orders to the letter. There was absolutely no way she’d let him eat something he wasn’t supposed to have.

Daniel was older and already had high blood pressure. With everything else going on, if the doctor said something was off limits, Jennifer made sure he listened.

“Daniel, you have to stick to your diet. Once you’ve fully recovered, you can eat whatever you want,” Claire told him gently.

Daniel was honestly tired of hearing that advice. But for some reason, when a doctor said it, it always seemed to land differently.

Maybe it was because Claire genuinely gave him hope for recovery. This time, instead of getting annoyed, Daniel actually felt like she had a point.

“Alright, I’ll hang in there a bit longer,” he sighed.

Jennifer looked on in disbelief. Ever since her dad got sick, he’d been so much more stubborn than before. No matter how much anyone tried

persuade him, he just dug in his heels.

But Claire? All it took was a few words and he listened. And Pandora too-he always listened to her as well.

Was there some kind of magic with the women in that family? Or maybe they just had that natural authority. When they talked, you believed them.

Claire gave Daniel another acupuncture treatment, but by the end, she was completely worn out She had barely recovered from her exam and should have just been relaxing Instead, she’d been running around doing out to eat, then

“We’re going to head out so your dad can get some proper rest,” Pandora said, noticing just how drained Claire looked.

Jennifer knew how hard she’d worked and didn’t even try to make her stay longer. She walked them out of the hospital herself.

Edison had some work dinner that night and had taken Jenny along as his date, so he wasn’t with them.

Queenie sent her driver to take Pandora and Claire home.

“I’d offer for you both to stay with me, but I know Claire probably feels most

comfortable at her own place,” Queenie said warmly.
