Chapter 694
However, the moment he arrived at the office, he had someone release a statement announcing that Lance had undergone a highly successful surgery and was expected to make a full recovery with rest.
The news provided a slight, temporary boost to the company’s plummeting stock prices.
But the moment the shareholders heard Mr. James was back in the building, they swarmed his office.
On the surface, everyone offered their sympathies regarding Lance, but in reality, they were there to corner Latham into providing a solid solution.
The situation had reached a boiling point. Lance’s accident was the definition of ‘when it rains, it pours.’
They couldn’t keep bleeding money like this. If they went down with the ship, their entire fortunes would vanish into thin air.
“Mr. James, we aren’t trying to force your hand, but the West End project has become a massive anchor dragging this company down.”
“We’ll gloss over the fact that you pushed it through against our advice.”
“Right now, we just want to minimize the damage.”
Latham was desperate to hold onto the West End project, knowing it was his only ticket to a comeback.
But the others had never been fully on board. Now that disaster had struck, they were ready to cut and run.
Latham felt cornered. With heavy, dark bags under his eyes from lack of sleep, the shareholders’ relentless badgering was the last thing he needed.
He raised his hands to quiet the room. “Everyone, please calm down.”
“I’m working on a solution. If push comes to shove, we’ll actively look for a buyer to take over the West End project.”
“But this is the company’s darkest hour. I need us all to brainstorm a way through this, not just stand around making demands…”
Latham practically begged, his voice dripping with emotion.
Yet, few in the room still believed he could pull off a miracle.
Once he managed to pacify the shareholders enough to send them away, he immediately dialed Edison’s number.
He had pulled some strings to get Edison’s personal cell.
“Edison, this is Latham.”
He had originally planned to use Claire as a bridge to reach Edison.
But with Claire drawing such a hard line and discovering the truth about the baby swap, Latham feared she would refuse to play middleman He had to reach out himself.
“Latham?” Edison answered, feigning confusion. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“I’m a few years older than you, so feel free to just call me Latham, or buddy.”
“I know I’m being forward by acting so familiar.”
“Are you free today? I’d love to take you out to lunch.”
Rarely did Latham ever speak to anyone with such humility.
But desperate times called for desperate measures.

“I have a business trip this afternoon.”
Edison shut him down immediately.
The only reason he hadn’t hung up outright was out of respect for Claire. Undeterred, Latham pushed on. “No problem. I can swing by your office right now.”
VIA Group was a corporate titan, and with Edison at the helm, Latham desperately needed his backing.
If VIA Group could front them a loan, all their problems would disappear.
Before Edison could decline, Latham ended the call.
As Latham rushed out the door again, his driver eyed him with concern, “Mr. James, you pulled an all-nighter Shouldn’t you at leas caťch a quick nap?” fo FindNovel.net
The driver had been with Latham for years and was one of his most trusted confidants.
Latham offered a bitter smile. “It’s not that I don’t want to rest. I simply don’t have a choice.”
“I appreciate the concern, but step on it. We’re heading to the VIA Group.”
