Chapter 705
Simon reached into the drawer behind him, pulled out a packet of traditional medicine, and unrolled it.
“Then tell me, what herbs are in here, and what condition does this prescription treat?”
Claire stepped up, gave it a single glance, and rattled off the ingredients.
Lawler glanced at Simon, silently asking if Claire had gotten it right.
Simon’s face was painted with astonishment. This girl really knew her stuff. Not only could she identify every single herb, but she could also perfectly recite their medicinal properties.
Simon was even more impressed with the young woman now.
“You’ve got a good eye,” he praised.
Lawler: “Do you still not believe she isn’t my girlfriend?”
Simon, however, felt he was being a bit greedy.
What was wrong with a husband and wife duo-one practicing traditional medicine, the other conventional?
“Don’t get cocky. If you let a catch like this slip away, you’ll be the one crying later.”
Lawler: “This was like talking to a brick wall.”
“Just believe whatever you want!”
He gave up trying to explain.
It only seemed to make things worse.
All he could do was hope Claire wasn’t offended as he turned to apologize to her.
Claire showed total understanding. “It’s fine.”
“I’ll take you to the backyard,” Lawler said, breathing a sigh of relief.
“Okay,” Claire agreed, following him to the courtyard behind the clinic.
Silas was out there drying the medicinal herbs. Tending to the herbs in this heat was grueling work.
“Dad.” Seeing his father’s gaunt silhouette, Lawler felt a lump in his throat.
Silas’s back stiffened. He never imagined his son would return, let alone call out to him.
In truth, the father and son hadn’t spoken properly in a very long time.
“Why are you back?” Silas turned around slowly, his gaze fixed on his son.
He didn’t even notice the young woman standing nearby.
“I have some time off, so I brought a friend back to visit.”
Only when Lawler spoke did Silas finally register Claire’s presence.
Naturally, he too assumed his son had brought a girlfriend home.
The girl was beautiful, but wasn’t she a bit too young?
“Claire, this is my father,” Lawler introduced her, then looked back at his dad. “Dad, this is Claire.”
“She’s also a traditional doctor. The kind who started learning from a young age.” Silas froze, blurting out, “Didn’t you hate traditional medicine the most?”
Why on earth did he find a girlfriend who practiced it?
His son held a deep-seated prejudice against traditional medicine ever since his wife’s death.
Silas could understand that.

“Mr. Lawler, please don’t misunderstand. Dr. Lawler and I are just colleagues, not a couple.”
Claire was sharp. The moment she saw the old man’s expression, she knew exactly what he was thinking.
“Colleagues?” Silas was even more confused.
Why would his son bring a colleague home, especially when this girl practiced traditional medicine?
The only way Lawler would ever
admit that traditional medicine could

Both father and son shared an

Silas had no idea if his son’s resentment had finally faded.
“I heard that you are a traditional doctor, Mr. Lawler, so I wanted to tag along and learn a few things.”
Silas gave a bitter smile. “I’m no master physician. There’s nothing you could possibly learn from me.”
“How could that be?” Claire waved Lawler off, gesturing for him to give her and Silas
a moment alone.
Taking the hint, Lawler announced he was heading to the kitchen to ask them to prepare some extra food.
