Chapter 740
“Since you guessed he’s my grandfather, you must have looked up some information.”
“For instance, my parents didn’t exactly get together with the blessing of both families.”
“Whatever I say, my grandfather isn’t guaranteed to listen.”
“We were father and daughter for eighteen years, and I don’t think I’ve ever wronged you in any way.”
“So please, don’t put me in a difficult position over certain things, alright?”
Claire’s last sentence could be considered gentle.
But the meaning was singular: I can’t help you, so stop making things hard for me.
Latham finally experienced the true meaning of reaping what you sow.
He hung up the phone.
He thought about seeking out Padgett himself, but he had no connections.
Meanwhile, Claire was currently at the hotel.
She was getting Padgett and the others settled into the same hotel where Dane’s grandfather had stayed last time.
It was also recommended by Dane; he had checked out this hotel during his last trip and found it quite pleasant, so they booked it again this time.
Claire had personally booked the rooms for the old man and his group, including Dane’s room.
She couldn’t stay the night. After finishing her call, she told her grandfather she was heading back.
“This is a suite, you can stay here just fine.”
Padgett was always incredibly lenient with his granddaughter. In his heart, she was Melissa’s precious treasure, making her the darling of the Churchill family.
Seeing Agassi’s mother today, he had come to realize that her family was by no means simple.
Agassi was absolutely not some poor boy from the countryside.
The in-laws had a great conversation, and the more they talked, the more surprised Padgett became.
The James family’s background sounded like rural new money, but Pandora herself acted exactly like an elegant lady from a highly cultured, scholarly lineage.
She was a far cry from a man like him, whose every breath was dictated by business and bottom lines.
However, since Edison had already visited the Churchill family to smooth things over, Padgett didn’t
with the James side anymore.
Have much of a pro
Now, both sides had reached an agreement to pool their resources to track down Agassi and Melissa.
Even if they couldn’t find them in person, they wanted to dig up some kind of news. Therefore, the two families needed to unite.
Padgett felt that meeting his in-law face-to-face actually made him feel quite reassured about the James family.
With such a level-headed matriarch, he figured Agassi couldn’t have been too bad of a guy.
It was just a pity…
To have them missing, neither alive nor confirmed dead, broke the old man’s heart.
“Grandpa, I won’t stay here. Let my two cousins keep you company.”
“My aunts are here too. I’ll come by tomorrow to be your tour guide and show you all around.”
Padgett had decided to stick around to attend the celebration in the village.
His main reason was wanting to see the place where his daughter had lived for a while.
He felt a pang of regret; if he had simply made his stance clear and respected his daughter’s wishes when she brought Agassi home back then, would the outcome have been different?
“Alright, you head back then. Or,
should have someone drive yout
Padgett was actually quite worried. about his granddaughter and in-law heading back by themselves.
“No need, I’ll drive myself. I’m a very steady driver.”
“You all must be exhausted today, so get some rest early.”
The old man was getting up there in years and had just taken a flight, so Claire was naturally concerned about his health.
Padgett didn’t push the issue.
Oakley was also staying at this hotel; he had come specifically to thank Claire, bringing an exceptionally generous graduation gift.
Claire greeted him privately before finally leaving with her grandmother.
However, she had barely stepped through her front door when she received a phone call from Shirley.
