Chapter 750
It was certainly unexpected that Claire’s aunt was a talent manager; even though they had all shared a meal at Hearth & Kettle, Lawler hadn’t recognized her.
Claire gave a solemn nod.
This was vital information for Karla to have.
If Sienna really had sustained spinal damage, her entire career would go up in smoke.
“I’ve got to get back to work. Make sure you get some rest,” Lawler advised.
Since the drama of the entertainment world didn’t directly affect Claire, he wasn’t overly concerned for her safety.
Claire waved goodbye, waiting until he was out of earshot before relaying the grim update to Karla.
Karla’s brow creased deeply. “How could it be that bad?”
“I’m not entirely sure, but Dr. Lawler is on shift tonight, so he likely caught a glimpse of Sienna when she was brought in.”
Karla fell dead silent. This was an absolute nightmare.
Sienna wasn’t like other stars; she came from a toxic, parasitic family.
Karla had forcefully kept them in check, banishing them to their rural hometown in exchange for a fixed monthly allowance directly from Sienna’s pocket.
They only tolerated the arrangement because they viewed Sienna as their cash
COW.
If they found out she was paralyzed, they would inevitably swarm back into her life to bleed her dry.
At this point, Sienna’s family hadn’t even been officially notified of the accident.
But with the internet exploding with the news, it was only a matter of time before her relatives found out.
Karla didn’t even want to place bets on what horrifying demands The Darwins would make once they arrived.
They were greedy enough to yank Sienna out of the hospital to save money, dragging her back to their farm to “recover.”
That would give them the perfect excuse to legally seize total control of all her assets.
She absolutely could not let that happen!
That girl had fought through hell to get to where she was; if her family got their claws
into her, her life would truly be over.
Naturally, her worst fears manifested immediately.
The Darwins were already calling Sienna’s phone relentlessly.
Trixie was holding the device and frantically showed the screen to Karla.
“Karla, do I answer this?”
They had to answer; otherwise, the rabid parents would likely jump on the next bus to the city.
Once they showed up, things would spiral out of control.
“Answer it, but let me talk to them,” Karla instructed, snatching the phone.
She accepted the call.
A voice immediately started screaming obscenities on the other end, prompting Karla to cut in sharply, “I am Sienna’s manager.”
The cursing instantly stopped, replaced by a harsh woman’s voice. “Oh, it’s you? Where is our Zoe?”
That was right—Sienna’s deadname had been Zoe.
“She’s in the operating room. They’re trying to save her.” Karla knew there was no point in hiding the undeniable truth.
“My poor, precious Zoe!” the woman wailed artificially through the receiver.
Karla just stood there in absolute silence, waiting for the theatrical performance to wrap up.
Sure enough, the fake sobbing dried up in record time. “Is Zoe dead? Are you trying to hide it so you can steal her inheritance?”
“She made a fortune! If she’s dead, all that money belongs to us, right?”
“We’re coming down there right now! We’re claiming our daughter’s body and burying her back in the village!”
The woman didn’t hesitate to list out her demands, and every word was dripping with sickening greed.
All they cared about was cashing in on her corpse.
Karla scoffed coldly. “She isn’t dead. She’ll be out of surgery soon.”
“She will handle her own finances, so you don’t need to trouble yourselves.”
“But she’s going to need a lot of
quiet time to recover, so it won’t be convenient for you to visit. Don’t take it upon yourselves to rush to the city either. It’s dangerous out here you might just get yourselves mugged and left with absolutely nothing, and won’t be able to save you.”
Karla intentionally tried to terrify the elderly couple with urban horrors.

But this time, they weren’t deterred “What do you mean mugged? We’re taking a bus! Our son is coming v us, so theres no way we’re getting. scammed!”
