Chapter 774
“She’s not even as useful as the girls in our village who start doing farm chores when they’re three!”
Beatrice pointed a trembling finger at Claire. “It’s a blessing that I took a liking to her.”
“If she doesn’t want it, I won’t force her. But calling my son a piece of garbage? You owe him an apology!”
For a brief second, Beatrice showed a flash of cunning, immediately weaponizing Karla’s insult to play the victim.
Hunter had initially been thrilled when his mother suggested setting him up with the gorgeous girl.
Girls that breathtaking simply didn’t exist back in his small hometown.
“Don’t you know whether your son is garbage or not? His entire academic career consists of getting into fights, smoking, and getting hauled into the police station.”
“He’s a notorious delinquent back home. Trash like him doesn’t even deserve to breathe the same air as my niece!”
“Take a good look at her fiancé. He’s a billionaire, brilliant, and impeccably raised…”
Karla had harbored some reservations about Dane being older than her niece, but right now, she was singing his praises from the rooftops.
It was blindingly obvious she was doing it just to spite Beatrice.
But, of course, she was telling the absolute truth.
Compared to that street punk, Dane was the perfect match for Claire.
Dane remained entirely unfazed by the sudden shower of compliments.
But Claire couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.
She had never heard her aunt praise him like that before.
Beatrice opened her mouth to argue, but any further words would just be self- inflicted humiliation.
The person taking it the hardest was Hunter.
He had always thought he was a big shot because his sister was a famous celebrity,
but standing next to Dane, he felt like sludge on the bottom of a shoe.
Karla’s brutal teardown had utterly humiliated him.
He hadn’t fought back earlier, but right now, he just wanted the ground to swallow him whole.
“Enough!” Hunter finally snapped at his mother.
Beatrice jumped, startled by her son’s sudden outburst.
“Why are you yelling at me? She’s insulting you! Just wait until your sister wakes up. We’ll make her terminate her contract with this woman, and we’ll see where she finds another cash cow!”
But Hunter just glared at her. “I told you to shut up! I don’t even like her, and I don’t want to date her!”
“Why did you even bring this up?”
“Do you really think I can’t find a better wife on my own? Why does it have to be her niece?”
Hunter felt like his mother was being incredibly stupid.
Seeing the mother and son turn on each other, everyone else naturally fell silent.
It wasn’t their circus anymore.
However, their screaming match was loud enough to summon an angry nurse, who promptly gave them a fierce scolding.
Claire had already found the hospital suffocatingly boring, and running into the Darwins had thoroughly ruined her mood.
“We have somewhere to be, Aunt Karla. We’re heading out.”
Karla patted her niece’s shoulder gently. “Alright, get home safe. You don’t need to bring meals anymore, either.”
Claire assumed that was the end of the ridiculous ordeal, writing it off as nothing to do with her.
She never expected to see the three Darwins plastered all over the internet the very next day.
Somehow they had managed to contact the paparazzi. They were weeping hysterically in front of the cameras, claiming Sienna’s manager had banned them from visiting their own daughter.
They wailed that they didn’t even know if she was dead or alive, and accused the manager of plotting to embezzle her fortune while she was incapacitated.
Their demands were clear: they just wanted to be by their daughter’s side and
begged Karla to show some mercy and let them in.
They entirely omitted the fact that they had been humiliated and kicked out because Beatrice had shamelessly harassed Karla’s niece.
