Chapter 836
They ordered a massive platter of BBQ ribs, along with a side of loaded potato skins.
They also got a massive sundae that looked absolutely delicious.
Owen didn’t peel the cajun crawfish for Claire himself, as he was the type who preferred to be pampered.
Fortunately, this restaurant had a unique feature: every table came with a dedicated
server.
With the staff handling the messy work of shelling the seafood, the guests didn’t have to lift a finger.
Claire was more than happy to sit back and relax.
Their server was a pretty girl with incredibly nimble fingers.
She focused intently on her task, only occasionally exchanging a few words with Owen.
Judging by their casual banter, it was obvious they knew each other well.
He was clearly a regular here.
Owen was a big spender and always tipped generously.
All the girls working there were more than eager to wait on him.
This particular server, Macy, had been working here for two years and made a killing
in tips thanks to her gorgeous face.
However, she always knew her boundaries and never made the guests uncomfortable.
For instance, right now, Macy thoughtfully placed the first peeled crawfish onto Claire’s plate.
She discreetly checked Owen’s expression, breathing a sigh of relief only when she saw he wasn’t annoyed.
“Try it, the flavor is phenomenal,” Owen said to Claire with a smile.
“It’s definitely a bit different from what you’re used to in Apex.”
Claire took a bite of the meat. It was incredibly flavorful, and she nodded, praising the dish.
Macy’s technique was flawless-clean, efficient, and incredibly fast.
Even with two people eating, her solo efforts easily kept pace with their appetites.
Of course, this was partly because they had ordered a massive feast, not just the seafood boil.
Claire had quite the appetite, and more than half the meat ended up on her plate. Owen constantly served her different dishes.
“Well, if it isn’t Mr. Churchill. What brings you to this part of town?”
They were almost finished when a group of guys suddenly strolled over to greet Owen.
They were all carrying motorcycle helmets, looking like edgy street racers.
But beneath the punk aesthetic, their designer clothes reeked of trust funds and old money.
They looked exactly like a pack of idle, wealthy playboys.
“What a coincidence,” Owen replied, his tone dripping with distaste.
The leader of this crew was Xavier Vance, his old middle school classmate.
They used to be close friends, but they had a massive falling out.
It was all over a girl.
Xavier had been head over heels for her, but she only had eyes for Owen.
Xavier believed Owen had knowingly stolen her away, and he had held a bitter grudge ever since.
Owen had
accusedtially felt wrongfully
accused and tried to explain, but the guy refused to listen.
He thought Xavier was a complete idiot for throwing away their friendship over a woman.
Out of sheer spite, Owen had actually dated the girl for a brief period.
However, he never really liked her in the first place, so they broke up shortly after.
He figured things would go back to
normal after the breakup, but foret
some inexplicable reason, Xavier hated him even more. .net>
Most of the time, Owen just ignored him.
But Xavier constantly went out of his way to cause trouble.
Whatever Owen was into, Xavier would forcefully insert himself into the mix.
Owen simply couldn’t shake him off.
Their feud had become a running joke in their social circle.
The Vance Family wasn’t quite as powerful as the Churchill Family, but they were still elite.
Since it was just petty squabbling between the younger generation, the
elders didn’t intervene the
business relationships intact.
their
“This chick looks good. Your new toy, Owen?”
It was a highly offensive remark; any other girl would have immediately lost her
temper.
Yet Claire just kept eating, completely unfazed.
Her indifference irritated Xavier, but it also piqued his interest.
