Chapter 837
“Shut your mouth, she’s my sister!”
If she were just some gold-digger, Owen wouldn’t have reacted so defensively.
But Claire was family. If rumors ruined her reputation, he would be the one paying the price.
“Your sister? Since when do you have a sister? You think I don’t know everyone in your family?”
Xavier was never one to back down.
Given their past friendship, he had spent countless hours at the Churchill estate and knew their family tree inside out.
He scrutinized Claire, noticing a faint resemblance to Owen around the eyes, and smirked.
“Don’t tell me she’s your dad’s illegitimate kid from some affair?”
Claire was naturally amicable, but she was by no means a pushover.
She shot Xavier a flat look. “Owen, who is this guy? His mouth is filthier than a sewer.”
Owen’s rising anger immediately gave way to a chuckle. “Filthier than a sewer is right.”
“You don’t know him, but he’s famous for talking trash.”
He then glared coldly at Xavier. “You and I can mess with each other all day, but you don’t get to make jokes about illegitimate kids.”
“Aren’t you afraid my mother will pay your family a little visit?”
“Mr. Vance sure knows how to raise a son. Throwing away a brotherhood over a woman is one thing, but now you’re spreading rumors about my parents!”
“And as for my sister’s identity, does Padgett need to march to your doorstep and explain it to your entire family himself?”
Xavier’s face darkened, instant regret flashing in his eyes.
Their personal rivalry was real, but their families were on good terms. Starting a corporate feud over a careless comment would be disastrous.
Still, having his pride stepped on by some random girl was completely unacceptable.
Besides, why would Padgett need to personally verify her identity?
Could this girl actually be tied to the patriarch rather than being an uncle’s mistake?
A flicker of malicious amusement danced in Xavier’s eyes.
If the Churchill Family had that kind
of scandal, their pristine reputant
would be dragged through the mud. Gontent
However, the thought vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Impossible. If she were really some secret granddaughter, would Owen be defending her this fiercely?
Having traded blows with Owen for years, Xavier was far from stupid.
But swallowing his pride to apologize to Owen and his sister was out of the question.
“I didn’t say that. It’s just highly suspicious that you suddenly have a sister out of nowhere.”
Owen scoffed coldly. “Real or not, it’s none of your damn business.”
“I’m in a good mood tonight, Xavier. Don’t push your luck.”
That only pissed Xavier off more, and he brazenly pulled up a chair and sat down at their table.
“I’m pushing it. What are you going to do about it?”
He reached out and grabbed a

With a jerk of his chin, he signaled his crew to grab an adjacent table.
Owen was completely caught off guard by the sheer audacity and looked ready to stab the guy with his fork.
But it was just a piece of food; he wasn’t that petty.
He just mocked him sarcastically, “Are the Vances going bankrupt? I ordered this, and this is our table!”
Shameless as ever, Xavier shrugged off the insult. “So what if I eat one?”
He flagged down the server. “Bring another hundred to this table. Half spicy, half garlic butter.”
“There, I paid you back. Happy?”
Owen let out a disdainful scoff. “You thinkt care about your money? You tan
